horrible selection, there could be no justification on Inzamam's omission & Kevin Peiterson's selection.
Greame Smith has captian would have suprised him as well.Anyhow who ever selected the team had a good sense of humor.

Rest of World XI squads
by rajeshwar babu devadoss on Sep 08, 2005 03:52 PM

I think INZAMAM UL HAQ should have been picked in Test XI, and CHAMINDA VAAS in One day XI. Inzamam is undoubtedly one of the most talented batsmen in world cricket while Chaminda is a very skilful bowler with a lot of control. The presence of Muralitharan as the regular spinner means that Daniel Vettori could have been replaced by Chaminda Vaas. Inzamam could have taken the place of Graeme Smith.

Really Poor Selection!!!
by jibran on Sep 08, 2005 02:37 PM

The author is absolutely right about Greame Smith being a captain, I wonder how did he even made the team. What I wanna know is why are there so many south africans in the team? what was the reason there? the only player who deserve to be in the team is Jacques Kallis. I wonder why do they have to bring Mark Boucher as a test keeper, when Sangakara is without doubt the best batsman/keeper in the world after Gilchrist and he has scored runs while being a full time keeper in both forms of cricket. Ommission of Inzamam raises alot of question and there isn't an answer that will satisfy any one. Inzamam is without doubt one of the greatest batsman in the world and recently on cricinfo there was an article saying how his winning record is better than the likes of Ponting, Tendulkar and Lara. He should make the team if the criteria would be current form or complete record. Mr. Gavaskar says Inzi didn't have good form against Aussies but what about his record in recent VB series. I ask if form against aussies is desired than why isn't Laxman there, he should have been the first indian batsman to be picked. Stephen Fleming would have been the better choice for captain, he is the best.

World XI
by svwarty on Sep 07, 2005 05:27 PM

Generally the teams selected are good and justified. However two crucial errors are the omissions of Sangakarra and Kumble.

World XI should play both Kumble and Murali at Sydney. Any keeper is ok against the quicks, it requires an exceptional keeper to handle Murali and Kumble. Sangakarra is familiar with both and he should have been in the test squad.

Kumble has the best spinner's record against Australia but misses out to keep Sir Richard and his kiwis happy.

Inzy has a poor record in Australia and overall against Aus - so he is no loss. Smith may not be the right captain of this side but that wont matter.

Rahul Dravid & Inzamam
by varun joshi on Sep 05, 2005 01:04 PM

World11 can not win against aussies without inzamam and rahul dravid....there is no stability in the batting order except sachin and lara.... the support dravid and inzamam can give to the team afridi and pieterson cant even think of
