It is what was expected when the tri-series in Lanka ended. May be that Saurav is better captain available right now. Rahul could not go for kill when needed most by making the players rally aaround.
Let Saurav lead from the front and bring in laurals .
This is an outrageous decision by the selectors. Dravid was not given enough time. Also, the prospect of Dravid winning against the minnows Zimbabwe might have scared Ganguly lobby as this would seal Ganguly's fate as the captain and he cannot be retained merely as a player anyway.
BCCI is made for Ganguly. Such a favouritism to Saurav is sad since presently he can not command a place in the team as a player. The fact that India lost the Indian Oil Cup is hardly Dravid's fault, he being the top scorer for India in the series.Additionally he made all the right moves as the Captain defending small total and chasing large scores. BCCI is the fiefdom of Dalmiya's cronies. It is time Indian Cricket fan should say enough is enough.
This is sad news. Obviously Ganguly will be Successful in Zimbabwe..why even Harbhajan as captain be successful in Zimbabwe. This is a SHAME for Indian cricket. Dravid should not go to Zimbabwe..let these guys sweat it out...Dravid will get the same treatment Srinath got...so he will retire in utter frustration....Ganguly couldn't even make it to Asian 11, he is the captain of Indian team..unbelievable. This is corruption at the highest....I think the whole thing was conspired. If India had won in the last match against SriLanka..Dravid would be still captain. So Ganguly's chelas..Harbhajan, Pathan and Zaheer just gave up..to make Dravid look bad.
I have a suggestion to sort out the current confusions which will benefit the Indian team selection in multiple ways.
There should be a really competitive 5 0r 7 Or even a 9 one day series between a Dravid XI and a Saurav XI, one some of the best wickets in India. Out of a pool of 50 players named on the basis of previous performances, the captains should be able to pick their teams of say 16-18 players on a turn by turn basis.
This will give the team much needed practice to handle pressure situations, give both the captains and all the players an equal chance to prove their mettle, and thus help select about 20 quality players.
This would be different than the Champions trophy because that is done with 3 teams and matches get less competitive. I am talking about making it as competitive as it can get from within India.
I am sure this series would evoke tremendous sponsorship and viewership as well.
Lets keep selection with as little politics as possible.
