Dhoni - is a Wicket Keeper
by Ravi on Aug 13, 2005 07:15 AM

its funny every one talks about Dhoni's batting and how he should adapt to batting at some X position. What everyone is forgetting is he is a wicket keeper to start with first....and i dont want to be harsh ..but he is a bad keeper...bad footwork and dont have good reflexes that a keeper needs. It was sad looking at the way he wasnt even trying to stop the balls down the leg side ...i dont remember how many bye- fours or wide-fours that could have been stopped. The catch that he dropped in the finals might not be a crucial one, but that is something that lets the bowlers down - ex bajji not doing well in the 3rd game. Any way i dont have the numbers with me - I am just worried if any one is talking about that with him ...hope atleast the coach is ...

Dhoni's Performance

M S Dhoni, needs to understand that he is a wicket keeper first, and a batsman next. He has to improve a lot in his wicket keeping. Dropping Jayasurya and then Jayawardhane specially when he is in form, is simply disgusting.

India's performance & Coaching
by B Raju on Aug 11, 2005 10:25 AM

Even before Greg Chappel had come down to India , the media was upbeat about his selection. It appeared that Greg is going to bat in all 10 slots and bowl all the 50 overs in a limited over game rather than the players. Media needs to be matured in such matters rather than just creating a hype and putting pressure on an individual like Greg and at the same time creating a situation where it appears that an Australian coach means sure shot victory. A coach can only guide and lay down the possibilities. It is up to the players to perform. It is something like there are n number of coaching centres in India for IIT , IIM and scores of other competetive exams. In the end , the candidates have to perform and not just the coaching centres' names. All said and done , there would not have been such hype if say Mohinder Amarnath or Venkatesh Prasad had been selected as coach.

Guru and Shishyas
by Narayan on Aug 11, 2005 10:11 AM

Dear Mr. Srinath,

Since you are from Karnataka, I would like you ask you whether you watched the Kannada movie 'Guru-Shishyaru' in 1982. If you remember the story of the film, Greg Chappel may well be the Australian version of the Guru Paramananda and the Shishyas? Eleven instead of seven! A classic case of real life imitating reel story!

srinath is right
by Jude on Aug 11, 2005 12:50 AM

Srinath is absolutely right. But the indian players are given a longer run than most of the other players in other major teams around the world get.

Ganguly having almost 11 years of international cricket experience under his belt should have played a better knock. Dravid played his part well. So did Yuvraj. But the lower order are expected to play better than they did. How long are we going to be soft on the players? Ok since this is the first tournament for this season we are bound to given them another chance.

Now talking about the bowling department. Nehra played a great hand. Hats off to him. Irfan Pathan is new to international cricket and did a decent job. But Zaheer khan, Kumble and Bhajji. They have loads and loads of international experience and is this the way they play in a final? Humans are bound to learn from their mistakes and the indians don't seem to learn them at all.

All in all another fiasco in the finals. Dropping catchs and failing under another pressure. With a heavy heart i just pray and hope india reach the NEXT LEVEL.

Jai Hind!

dhoni
by aravendhan on Aug 11, 2005 12:17 AM

dhoni is asparkling player as known to india.but there is an opinion that he is not able to withstand pressure situations, which is obvious in the Indian oil series. The only way to make up with this situation is to make him play at No.6 when india bats first and when batting second promote him to either 2 or 3 position and drop sehwag and yuvraj down. It wold make dhoni feel free at the top &play his natural game ,while sehwag & Yuvraj being experienced and also hard hitters make the game easy & they could turn the game from a single over.meanwhile dhoni doesn't have to feel any pressure because he would be sent only to play his natural game RELAXED.

What has happned to indian team
by saurabh pradhan on Aug 10, 2005 10:27 PM

I am a very keen follower of cricket from last 15 yrs or so and by looking at the current crop of indian players I feel everything is fine except the "Motivation" factor. If you have watched every match very carefully then you would have noticed that right from the first game players looked just a bunch of mere pedestrians who I though were enjoyings beaches of Sri Lanka.
The first indication was (see its a very minute point ) when India were fielding and the batsmen from opposite team just defende or played in hands of fielder our fielders never were able tograb that ball no here i am not talking of stopping but grabbing the ball. That thing pounced on us on tuesday night which was a final catches were being dropped by Shewag,Dhoni,Pathan,Harbajan, and so on.
Now if that catch of Jayasuriya was being taken I think no way Sri Lanka could have posted that mamouth total cause the time and situation of dropping that cathch was crucial , the already were 3 down and that catch would have hetched them the 4th , but then.... you know what happned.
Earlier when our team had greats like Azar,Ajaj Jadeja , Robin Singh, they used to come good invariably good in finals.
When would India b th
