In the first place India did not deserved the IOC cup.
The way they played in the preliminary matches was appaling, to say the least. They had just MANAGED to reach the finals.

Once again it shows the professionalism or rather the lack of it in the team.
At most of the times majority of the guys fail, and one or two will try to salvage the team.
If India has to do well, then it is crucial that most members of the team perform.

Guys like Gangu, Laxi, ZAhir need to be shown the door.

bad planning
by subho on Aug 10, 2005 03:22 AM

india should have gone with 4 bowlers.

also dhoni/pathan should have been sent earlier, say after shewag got out, so that we had some seasoned batters in the end.

bad planning cost us the match.

Indian team dug its own grave....!!
by Abhishek on Aug 09, 2005 11:41 PM

I saw the Indo-SL match very carefully. My side presumption is after Sehwag got out, Dravid-Ganguly duo should have tried to atleast maintain the runrate well above 6 plus. Instead both of them relished on the cream of shots & the macho score that Sehwag let off by the end of 6th over. Surprisingly, only 40 runs came of the next 9overs. Ganguly just tried to play safe only to make everyone ponder that he's cho-sweet making bon-bon partnership. If our frontline batsmen start taking singles & doubles by the time of 40th over, then what do you expect from the tailenders..to hit 6's & 4's. The gigantic task was to build partnership of runs & not partnership of 1's & 2's. One should have been striker & the other should have carried on with rotating the strike. Me & my colleagues were extremely disappointed the way Ganguly & Mohd. Kaif were not able to rotate the strikes. I'd little hopes before the match 'coz inspite of being at the Ferozshah Kotla's Final match b/w India & Pak I thought Indian team had the guts to come out the situations. But now i know that they love to create situations & then wonder how it happened.

Its one more poor show by our team.I have lost hope that india will match with aussies,it proves that no coach can pump this team india can never improve.Balls i wud say v have talents these players r better in tv ads than playing cricket now that yuvraj has scored a century he is insured himself for playing one more season ,the more we speak abt these actors its waste of energy.V fans are at fault having given them star status.

We need a new team really and not just for the sake of it.
by N.V.Krishna on Aug 09, 2005 11:09 PM

When the selectors selected a new team with fresh faces, they hoped to bring about a change, but look at who played in the end...Same old faces...No doubt the result is the same....!!!If we really need to improve our one day team,we must first pick athletes who are good fielders first.Commitment should be the first attribute and then skill, experience.Big names should be the last criteria.Just to accommodate big name we had to leave out the youngsters for no fault of theirs.

Pick this team for 10 odis and see the difference:-

M.S.Dhoni (W/K)
Virender Sehwag
Suresh Raina
Md. Kaif(C)
Rahul Dravid
Yuvraj Singh
Reetinder Singh Sodhi(VC)
Irfan Pathan
L.Balaji
Harbhajan Singh
Murali Karthik

Venugopal Rao
J.P.Yadav
Sarandeep Singh

India-Sri Lanka match
by T.P. Viswanathan on Aug 09, 2005 11:02 PM

Indian crickers seem to have thought they were playing against toddlers - Bangladesh, Zimbabve, etc. If the front line bowlers (except Nehra) were irresonsible, fielders were outsmarting them in their defeatist attitude.

Nehra did well till the last over, but it does not mean that he should be condoned for the callous last over. After playing for long in International Circuit, he is still not able to assess the key strengths and weaknesses of important players! Chaminda has proved time and again that he is a force to reckon with as far as batting is concerned. At the end of the day, the crucial runs conceded by him in his last over did make a difference.

Looking at the margin of defeat, Indian batsmen may be feeling apologetic for their casual and dispirited batting. Another 25 runs would have made a world of difference.

indianoilcup defeat
by S.Leeladhar on Aug 09, 2005 10:58 PM

before going to final eventhough we were underdogs on paper as well as in actual, i expected some chance for india. Team composition being excellent under the circumstances
but in the first 15 minutes the match was won by srilanka psycologically due to non performance of zaheer and pathan and later by kumble and harbhajan(all going wicketless). with 4 bowlers we used to give around 250 runs and with 5 bowlers we give 285 runs and see later how the lankans bowled.
always we blame our batsmen
it was a disgusting defeat

Bravo..India did it again!!!
by Apex on Aug 09, 2005 10:18 PM

Hail the new Indian skipper and coach, Hail the Indian team, take positives from the tour..for India has succeeded emphatically in keeping their record intact..What a wonderful defeat!!! India were cruising along at a snail's pace with just 61 runs from the first six overs..Thank God Sehwag was out..otherwise he would have undone India's efforts to maintain their impeccable record in ODI finals."Comeback man" Ganguly played a marvellous 26 runs off just 45 balls before he was out LBW. What a pity. Yuvraj and Dravid...why did u have to play so wonderfully??? You nearly spoilt the party maan...You did a good job..but Dhoni was the best...and then Harbhajan was very "unlucky" to have forgotten the basics of the game. When you run between the wickets there is a partner whom you have to respond to.Kaif...I don't want to comment on him..He could have accelerated the pace..but he didn't..how could he..he was bogged down by some very good bowling from Upul Chandana...And what was this saying that playing five bowlers will be an advantage..??? Go home and do some advertisements Men in Blue...thats a better field for u...Oye Bubbly..Well the bubble burst yet again..U've lost a fan..

indian coach and captain must learn
by samuel on Aug 09, 2005 09:47 PM  | Hide replies

All indian player must learn from srilankans that they should not think they can take run from the last five overs. All indian players doing the same mistake in all the matches. Indian players are good for nothing.
