by ZAMAN SHAH on Apr 25, 2005 07:44 PM

Dear all,
I am a Pakistani living in UK.Like Pakistani Players I a big fan of Rahul Dravid no doubt he is one of the greatest batsman in the world.Indian team in my point of view is a great team but i guess they need more players like Rahul who can play very well underpressure, all indian team need few players like rahul Only mistake they have made this time they underestimate Pakistans young team. Dont you all think they you always rely on sachin come on he is a great player but you should move on now. I live with an indian his name is Krishna and i always says to him yar y dont you leave sachin try to enciurage few other young players

Just like how the average indian is affected by caste and region the indian cricket team supporters also have the same attitude. I wish that they hadn't partitioned the states simply based on linguistics.

Comments from Pakistani

Hi Dear sir, I am from Pakistan and regular fan of Rediff specially Cricket page. Since end of Pak-Ind Series am daily reading columns about failure of Indian team.Mostly people blame Indian batting (specailly Tendulker and Sewag)for this failure.Someone called it Freindship Series.Except some people No one praised Pakistani team.Truth is that Pakistani team which was consist of Young players palyed well and beat india.Paki players were full of confident, other side Inidan media made indian players over confident.Secondly why indians only depends at Tenduker and Sewag...All players are good in india team. All players deserve they should be treated as Sachin.
Thnx
Bye

Cricket and India

The state of cricket and sports in general is collective reflection of India as a whole , It is a shame that there is a lack of talent from a country of 1 billion and even worse a total lack of fighting spirit . The trouble is everybody is interested in short term solutions , afterall we are a country who cannot even get a single olympic gold medal .The Indian government should come up with a 5 year plan for sports . Here are a few suggestions :

1. Make national cricket more popular , more attractive to the standards of English county .
2. Increase the rewards for national , state and district level players .
3.Indian corporates should their one teams and be allowed to compete .Imagine a Infosys vs Wipro cricket match . The success of the Indian IT can definitely spill down to other aspects of Inida including cricket .
4.Encourage olympic sports in this country ,make fitness a national slogan .

Until unless there is a national sports movement in this country nothing can save indian sports .

INDIAN TEAM
by Ashutosh on Apr 19, 2005 01:52 PM

I was going throu the comments made by readers on and noticed that most of these are related to the INDIVIDUALS like sachin, sehwag etc etc.

If we take a look at the individual performances, we can say our players are the best among the lot. e.g. SACHIN played wonderful in 2 games. claimed 5 wickets in 1 and scored 100 plus runs in other.

SEHWAG played some astonishing cricket throught the series.

DRAVID was wonderful all around.

KAIF chipped in with couple of good innings and contributed with his fielding also and the list goes on....

But the question is...... inspite of the individual brilliance, y are we not clicking as a team? We can also not calim that SACHIN, DRAVID, SEHWAG etc are not playing for the team. THEN WHERE ARE WE GETTING IT WRONG:

And for me, the most important reason for this is that the COACH should have a big say in all the team decisions like picking up the team of his choice etc etc.
Also, its no point talking again about the good things JOHN WRIGHT did to the INDIAN CRICKET but now we need to carry on with the game without JOHN. The next big challenge for us is to find a good coach who can really take on from where JOHN is leaving us

Poor Performance

There is too much commercialization in the indian cricket and this is spoiling the game. The pakis came with no master blaster and likes in the team but they have totally out smarted india in the game. We are the best team still on the paper but ahead of the poor bangladesh and kenya and zimbabwe in the ICC rankings.. Great Going India. If the sponsors invest 10% of the total amount spend on cricket to athletics and other sports i will be a proud indian after an olympics..!!!!

why india fails
by santhosh on Apr 19, 2005 12:18 PM

let me tell at the outset that i have no problem in india failing in matches. but, it is the way we get defeated that worries me. before going into each and every team member, i whould try to list out the shortcomings of india as a team.

1. the passion to win matches that was evident say 2 years ago (from 01 to 03 precisely) is missing from the team in the last few months. i don't know whether it was due to less effective stranglehold of ganguly as a captain due to his own injury/form worries. when ganguly took over captaincy, he had the firepower to motivate team to win from adverse situations-remember the natwest final and his quickfire 70 odd runs at the top- and a great heart to promote youngsters who he believed would deliver. he believed in sehwag in sri lanka when we played a do or die game against nz and we know what happened. he believed in vvs and bhajji in the series against oz and we know what happened. he built up a team without any bias to any region whatsoever, with genuine match-winners. (remember the tour of oz in the late 90's with sachin at the helm where we had the team packed with mumbai players-kanitkar,agarkar,nilesh, bahutule, dighe. but it was different g

why india lost the oneday series
by ravi on Apr 19, 2005 11:19 AM

India didnt play as a unit as it did earlier during worldcup. moreover where are our bowlers. they are giving away more runs and not taking wickets. everyone are inconsistent. even the batting also not upto the potential of the players. sachin is making amendments in his style of batting and couldnt get good results. but when he scored hundred where is support from bowlers. they didnt even apply their thoughts for the well planned batting of pakistan. moreover woolmer is a good coach who is shaping the pakistani team well. the situation was like giving advantage to the enemy when ur in good position to win. 4th match we should have won because after scoring over 300 runs u shuldnt lose the match. if india had won that match it would have been different situation by this time. it would be either 3-3 level or 4-2 win for india. so they didnt make hay when sunshined. now it is the time to go back n gear up as team and play as a unit to get results for apna india.
