Javed miandad wrote an o.k article but what was really shocking was his use of terms like "your team" , "your kumbles, harbhajans" and "your players" such terms were apalling and he should have refrained from using such terms instead he should have just said "indian team" "indian bowlers" and so on....i dont know abt others ...but i dint like it when i read those sentences.
Javed wrote... Clearly India's one-day cricket has gone to pieces. The tag of World Cup finalists has rarely been so ill-deserved. Now they have players who are playing only for themselves.
Hahaha... Remember how the spineless batting of PAK in 1999 world cup... ONE OF THE WORST WRITER IN THE CRICKET... 3rd grade columnist commenting on India's game... Tch.. Rediff.. Itz better not to waste your money on such worthless writers...
There's nothing wrong with the thinking part of India cricketers. Its just that things went wrong and back to back games meant that there was very little time to correct them. Now that the loss to Pakistan is past, we need to make sure that we dont make things difficult for our cricketers. Its a pain to read few readers suggesting that Tendulkar be dropped. He still has a good amout of cricket left in him and is still the best cricketer in world cricket. what needs to be done is now is give new look to the old team. this will also change the players approach. atleast now, no more politics. If you know that Agarkar has a better variety than any other fast bowler in India, play him. laxman is 100 times better that mongia, play him.
the ideal team would be Tendulkar (c) , Sehwag, Ganguly, Dravid, Kaif (v.c), Laxman, Yuvraj, Dhoni, Agarkar, Pathan, zaheer, balaji, harbajan and kumble. this team would do wonders.
Ganguly will come to form and we all know that can make a huge difference as he is a match winner.
I have been reading Javed Miandad's articles for sometime now. His articles are just another newspaper journalists articles rather than a coach or a player or a strategists' ideas/opinions. When the team loses, he criticizes them, and when they win, all praises on them. Think outside the box, sometimes!!!
I can't believe I am saying this....but I will have to agree with everything you had to say.
The only time Indian team played like a team was during the world cup and that was due to the reaction the people showed at home......wonder do we have to keep reacting the same way to get the team spirit from the Indian team....its not fair to Indian fans....like many here in the usa....I have spent so many sleepless nights to watch these games....its just isn't fair to us.
My heart is broken...but I know next time India plays I will end up watching it....its pain but there is no choice....I guess I am blessed with the pain
I was suprised initially when the one day squad for the Indo-pak series was announced, as Laxman was missing.I just could not understand how a batsmen of that caliber was kept aside inspite of scoring a magnificent century at the crucial 5th one dayer against pakistan when India toured pakistan last year. Now the same player was not playing against the same team in his home country.I think in Laxman's case the selectors are not showing the same patience with which they are treating anyone else. Why is'nt any column written in the past few weeks talking about Leaving out Laxman.Laxman was left out from the world cup squad as well.I sincerly think that he could have made the difference in the series against pakistan and that a batsmen os his caliber surely deserves a place in the team INDIA.
This man comes up week after week with on-the-mark analysis of both the Indian and Pakistani teams....and he holds no punches...!!! Perhaps us Indians need to look at this great sportman from across the border to help mend our team spirit and try and pull us together. Would he not make a great consultant...or better still a marvelous coach ..???!!!! Thank you Javed. Frank Cherian USA
Selfishness has always been part of Indian cricket. It is not surprising that India is perhaps the only team where the Coach does not have a say in the team selection. There is so much zonal politics in the selection process. The recent election of office bearers which resulted in a bitter legal battle is a testimony for this. Influential zones are able to push players like Agarkar time and again, and talented and dedicated players like Md.Kaif are wasted away. I don't think Cricket players deserve the iconic status that they enjoy today. Cricket for sure it taking the route of hockey in India. The fact that India has started producing champions in other sport like Billiards, Chess, Tennis & Golf is a clear indication that the Indian public have become disillusioned with cricket and have started looking elsewhere.
