India not playing to potential
by C.K.Suryanarayana on Apr 19, 2005 12:53 AM

Yes, the current Indian cricket is not playing to potential.
When these people want the payhikes on seniority they should also play well. It is agreed that all the time they cannot deliver the goods.
But first and the foremost thing I would like to tell that we the people make them gods once they play well. Ex. When Dhoni hit a sparkling century everybody went to the extent of comparing him with Adam Gilchrist.
Second thing please do not praise Tendulkar again and again it is agreed that he has played well since 1989 and hopefully will also play well in future also. Only Indian players are always praised and make demi gods in no other country they praise any individual always. Please l
Then give more responsiblity to Yuvraj Singh, Mohammed Kaif and others.
When the commentators such as Ravi Shastri, Sanjay Manjrekar tells that India needs a genuine alrounder like Shahid Afridi, Chris Cairns, Sanath Jayasurya, who all can both bat and bowl well when call for duty.

Regarding Sourav Ganguly, there is no doubt that Ganguly is a good captain and has won many matches for us by his astitute captaincy, but just by becoming captain he need not take credit. He should also play well

India Not Playing to its potential
by Ashish Ganda on Apr 18, 2005 03:03 PM

Potential we have plans we don't.

I think Indian Cricket Team needs to be taught to handle success properly, think ahead for different gameplans in different situations they can be placed and go through a lot of visualization of reactions in those situations before any match.

Mental preparation seems now more paramount than physical preparation, because when we have potential but we are not winning directly implies one thing: we are not mentally prepared. We are not totally committed. We are not grounded on realism. We do not prepare for difficulties.

Come on take help of a psychologist. And take a break if you are suffering from mental exhaustion.

Always Loosing Side .... Dravid's Potential ???
by Uma on Apr 18, 2005 11:07 AM

Exclusively for Dravid Million People are watching the match played by 11.It is not easy to play after loosing three consecutive matches for us(Indians), where as after lossing two matches Pakistan team won four consecutive matches? how is it possible for them? Its all their team effort, they play for their country not for individuals take a look at the batting line up,what a contribution by each individuals. We R very poor in chasing,we shud feel that atleast we shud bat for fifty overs. Why our indian batsmen are sick of chasing.Winning is not possible for both the teams, only one can win.We dont have the fighting & TEAM spirit. Why all the players turn in different sides? play for the country, Keep ur enemity out of the ground.Rahul,we have high hopes on U as a captain.U hv been the pillar of our team. Everything is in your hands. We dont want our team to win all the time, but we want our team to play all the 100 overs.Bowling 50 overs and playing 35 overs is a shame 2 our country. Please take the pride atleast by playing 50 overs.we have great players without consistency Sewag,Sachin,Dravid(c),Doni,Kaif,Yuvraj,Balaji, Murali,HSingh,Pathan,ZKhan,(instead of a seamer can D.Mongia

Need to play natural game
by Mirza on Apr 18, 2005 10:48 AM

Indian players are losing the game much before the game is over. Everybody know that they are players with high potential, just require to play their natural game, without getting into pressure. They should just do what they know best, the fruits will automatically come to them. Even if they lose playing this way, they will not lose it in a humiliating way they have been.

So India still has some potential left.
by Nikhil on Apr 18, 2005 10:21 AM

It is so discouraging to see india loose 4 times in a row.
If some one is out of form they should play in domestic level and get their confidence back. This is a shame for all the big name players.
It seems that indian players are very much like politicians who have big big names but theynever do any thing.

Cricket Fan
Indian ODI team for the future
by Cricket Fan on Apr 18, 2005 09:46 AM

Before everyone decides that India is not playing to potential, we need a reality check on the team composition for the future. With World Cup 2007 not too far, I think it is time to make some harsh decisions and build a team that would peak over the next 2 years. In the process we might lose matches/series, but it will all be worthwhile if we send a good team to World Cup 2007 and put up a good show. If we continue to be in this state of self-denial, we would carry loads of baggage to the World Cup and it would be a repeat of World Cup 1992. Remember 1992? We had too many players in the twilight of their careers and hence got knocked-out before the knock-out rounds.

Suggestions: Drop Tendulkar and Ganguly from the one-day team. Kumble is a wise man and I guess is consciously staying away from ODIs. In any case, we cannot have Kumble for 2007. Dinesh Mongia is a big waste and should never figure in our plans for the future. Yuvraj needs to take more responsibility or can be dropped as well. When everyone says he is a great striker of the ball, let him take more responsibility and may be open with Sehwag. Groom some and give chances to the Badanis, Srirams, Yadavs and Gambhirs.

Captains comments
by T.S.Gopalakrishnan on Apr 18, 2005 09:25 AM

dear sirs,
Dravid commented the same way as Ganguly after
the team fails to win.The players not playing
to potential is a happening seen by the millions
and we want better comments and the follow up
actions from the captains.we must have an enquiry
commitee headed by cricket stalwarts like
Gavaskar,commentators like Boycott and sports
writers. The fifteen men who had the potentials
but not brought out should appear before the
commitee and give reasons or explanations for
their failures sometimes repeated failures.
The commitee should process the same and give
corrective steps. The BCCI should try to implement
them.

Sourav and Tendulkar should be rested forever
by Nilesh Salatry on Apr 18, 2005 09:09 AM

It is high time that selectors take stringent action against non - performance including our so called greatest palyers.

As far as Ganguly's performance goes we have not seen him performing with the bat for quite some time now. But, because he has the blessing of "top boss", he is still playing and that too because he plays for india.

Similarly, for Tendulkar. His batting now a days has started giving an impression that he has lost his charm and offensiveness. Unlike in the past, it looks as if he is determined only to set personal records and not bother about India's winning.

One good inning and an assured place for next 10 matches should no longer be criteria even for senior players.

Our senior players who earn an annual package of Rs.50 Lakhs from BCCI apart from other ad campaigns, have not contributed even Rs.1 Lakh of cricketing to india. It is time BCCI also reviews this pay system. It shouls not be based on seneority, but on performance. Whovere, plays better must be rewarded with highest sum and not the non-performing senior player.

Indian Cricket Team
by Minar Chandan on Apr 18, 2005 08:59 AM

I feel they should target the players now. Should not go for their passed performances. They should check of their last five matches performance in that average should be 45-50%. Even same manner for Bowlers Economy + atleast 3 wickets. ( They should select team for 20 players & in that they should roated the players who are in real form.)
