Cricket

This is with reference to current on going one day series against Pakistan. I strongly believe that Mr.Sachin Tendulkar has passed his prime. Now he appears to be more active on the screen than on the field. Though means of earnings is his personal matter, the matter of concern is his undue occupation of one important place in playing eleven. I believe both he and Sourav should drop themselves temporarily for the same of team. With Rahul in charge and two fresh players in the game this could turn out to be good for Indian cricket. No use carrying passengers for pleasure trip. No matter how hard it sounds, it is the current reality.

saurav..plz stay out
by manisha on Apr 14, 2005 09:14 PM

let him stay out for sometime. to search for a better batsman/skipper, the first thing we need to do is experiment with others. he;s not the last man who can lead, give others a chance....who knows, we might end up being a better team !!

Ganguly's ommision
by Shaly Jacob on Apr 14, 2005 09:09 PM

Wot could i say? Its very unfair from the selectors when they selected squad for Kanpur test even before they hearing the news from ICC. Everyone who loves cricket know about ganguly's ability in one day cricket and very successfull captain for team India. People should not suck ganguly's blood for no reason. He is having the ability and mental strength to drive team India. Even great sachin scored less average than ganguly in first three ODI matches against pakistan and he scored 100 in the fourth ODI. Ganguly can also do the same in fifth ODI. Why the selectors are not giving him the chance for atleast last two games?

ICC committing blunders
by Manuel Vaz on Apr 14, 2005 08:52 PM

ICC committed a blunder earlier and now they have done it again. First, they banned Ganguly for two one-dayers and then revoked the ban and now they have banned him for six one-dayers and possibilities are there that they will again revoke the ban.

In the first place, if the ICC doesn't have the guts to stand for its decision, then it should not take a decision.

This blunders by the ICC will set a pattern where captains of influential boards like the BCCI will take the ICC guidelines for granted and commit such mistakes again in the future, knowing very well that they are untouchable.

However, the decision of the ICC, is a blessing in disguise for the Indian cricket team. Because, with Ganguly in the team, India was playing with 10 players against the opposition's eleven.

Hopefully, the ban against Ganguly will be upheld so that the likes of Dinesh Mongia and S Sriram will get a chance to prove their worth.

Ganguly
by Supriyo on Apr 14, 2005 08:28 PM

I see that BCCI is more interested in removing Ganguly than even the ICC. Note - this offence is team-related, and not that Ganguly misbehaved. It is a punishment on the team, which the captain, quite rightly, bears the brunt off. In all such cases, the cricket board of the concerning country comes forward to discuss and negotiate, and if unsuccessful, drops the player and makes an alternate arrangement.

I am surprised that BCCI acted differently in this case. Bringing up Ganguly's performance as a batsman in this context is sheer nonsense, if someone has to drop him for that reason, then they need to have b...s to drop him for BATTING. Trying to get it done through backdoor is so typically Indian cricket - all through the years we have suffered from such practises.

Dont forget Ganguly gave this team a character after years of stagantion, confusion, match-fixing [probably] and 'home-sickness'. He brought up a positive team, with young players, and fighting spirit. It will be a sad reflection of our lack of character and cowardice if we conspire against him because of his success.

Ganguly's exclusion from team
by partha and sapt on Apr 14, 2005 08:17 PM

I am a true fan of indian cricket and and i want share my views about ganguly's exclusion.

Why everyone is busy in pulling ganguly's leg ??
Does it mean ganguly is only responsible the defeat ??

I hope others are also equally responsible for that. even if we had enought runs our bowlers and fielders did the mess. As example

1)our so called good fielder Yuvraj missed a crutial lolipop catch of Shoiab mallik so after Razzaq got out. That was one of the turning point of the match. But nobody remembered that.

2)Our frontline bowlers got a solid punch from afridi and butt initially, that was natuaral considering first 15 overs( as they are not Mcgrath or Gillespie), but after that Razzaq and Shoiab mallik showed how to play with patience in front a huge target. They only roating the strike for more than ten overs with singles and double. That also seems a turning point as indian bowler can't resist them below 6 runs per over. Is it gangaly's fault that his bowlers didn't perform though he tried all possibilities with seven bowlers ??

It is very sad that indian fans didn't remember the past.

3)

Ganguly's Exit
by Srikanth Chakravarthi on Apr 14, 2005 07:58 PM

Ganguly is very much a rated player and a class captain . He is a human being passing thru different phases .

But sometimes it is unavoidable to critize this class player as since long he has lost the touch. His ban is really boon to india .

He would have been sacked but now with the ban his exit might be graceful.

BCCI should have taken VVS Laxman inplace of him but nobody including the former players do agree with the BCCI decision. Laxman has proved it in australia and pakisthan too.

Who is Dinesh Mongia and is included due to the backing up of Ganguly.

Not the least I am very big fan of each and every Indian cricketer with DRavid & Sachin heading the list.

ALL THE BEST , INDIA WILL DO IT

ganguly's ban
by sharathmsc on Apr 14, 2005 07:51 PM

hi everybody,

ganguly no doubt a wonderful batsman, but now-a-days as he's not in form, it's better to play some county games and improve his skills.

no doubt, he's responsible for the team INDIA now we see, giving as many chances as a player wants.but here i want to mention one thing about australia.

steve waugh , who was a great player and also a great captain who would make gillespie, mc grath play with the bat. but still got a rejection from the selectors, when he was in good form, but that resulted in world top class team. now in world i donno any one would compete them. so what i say is some decisions are harsh and hard, but taken to benefit the team INDIA but not for single player.

so DADA it's tight situation but take rest and prove ur self and would love to c u come back with a bang.

Criticizing Ganguly
by Deepak on Apr 14, 2005 07:25 PM

We should not criticize Ganguly for his poor performnces, its true that he has been in out of form and every player goes though this time. We should sympathize and should encourage him to get his form back. Forget about the Ban and other things we India ourselves has a Cricket Board and I think BCCI should keep him out of the One Dayers for somewhile now and let him concentrate in nets and bring him back in Test matches. I have seen former Indian players criticizing the current players, but I want them to see their past havent they suffered from this situation ? Especially Bishen Singh Bedi I would like to ask him how many times has the Indian Team won during his captaincy and how good was his record ? As per me BCCI should keep Ganguly out of the team for a while until he gets his form back, Ganguly definetely needs to know that he has been suffereing with poor form and his place in the team is not only as a Captain but also as a Batsmen and he needs to give his best to the team, he needs to practice and concentrate in the nets and must be called back in the Test matches. As upon Rahul Dravid making captain I think is a very good move, he is capable of handling it very well.
