srinath should stop writing columns
by Nagarjuna on Apr 08, 2005 07:05 PM

I do not understand why srinath continues to write columns and rediff keeps putting them on their site. There is no substance to what he writes. It is like a match report, that too very plain. No insight into what is going on with team, game or strategy. No offence, but he should stop writing.

Regd. Ganguly's batting
by nithin on Apr 07, 2005 07:32 AM

I think its just that time for Ganguly to relook into his batting and gain confidence by spending time at the wicket.Remember this is the same Ganguly who is close to 10,000 runs in the one day format which is not a easy task. Its just that phase in his career through which every cricketer goes through and good luck Ganguly its just one good knock and he will find his rythm going. All the best INDIA.

Srinath Column - 04/05/2005
by Kas Parthasarathy on Apr 07, 2005 03:22 AM

I am an ardent fan of Javagal Srinath ever since I have been following Cricket. I used to get so much excited about his bowling especially before his shoulder injury that put a check on his menacing progress as a fiery fast bowler. But, there is one thing that I had always felt completely disappointed about. His inability to contain batsmen on flat tracks or during the slog overs in one day cricket. I have always wondered how his partner Venkatesh Prasad could check the batsmen so well while Srinath struggled. The killer blow for Srinath fans came when he bowled in the World Cup 2003 final! Srinath bowled a wrecked spell at the start and at the death and failed to guide the inexperienced Zaheer. It was an appalling display in which Srinath looked completely clueless and as a senior bowler, I expected him to bear some teeth and check the Aussies. Considering that, I feel it is ironical when he says, "Sami should learn to bowl with variations on these wickets to keep the batsmen guessing. Once the batsmen have gauged the pace off the wicket, it's only the question of which ball to pick for scoring shot". It would have been great if he learnt that during his playing days!!!

What's new?
by Ankit on Apr 06, 2005 11:36 PM

"Swinging it with Sri." Everytime I read Srinath's column, and by the time I reach the end of it, I feel as if I read nothing new. I have a lot of respect for Srinath as a cricketer, but honestly, his columns suck. His columns are always posted about 2 days after any game, and what he says in his columns is made up of bits and peices from all the other articles Rediff had posted in those 2 days.
Srinath is probably giving out his own personal opinions and thoughts over a game, but those thoughts and comments are not very interesting to read at.
If Srinath is writing for Rediff for free, then I think it is pretty good, but if he is charging for these columns, then I think that Rediff should go for another cricketer and get his views on the game instead. "Letter from Langer" is a lot better column than Srinath's. Maybe you could approach Venkatesh Prasad and start a column like "Venky's Viewpoint" or somthing else.
On a side note: Prem Panicker, your articles are Awesome!! We'd rather read your amazing articles at the end of the day, than a ball-by-ball commentry. if you can manage both, well and good, but if not, then I'm sure everybody else would prefer your articles too.
Thanks.
