Ganguly and State Quota
by Srini on Sep 28, 2004 02:22 PM

Ganguly is targeting and being partial to only players from Bengal. First he started witht he wicket keeper 'Deep Das Gupta' and then went to 'Rohan Gavskar' and now his comment about 'Paul' shows this clearly.

Well, if they are good players then it is well and good for India but the previous two were simply state quota and now we are all seeing a arrogant captain who is going to kill the Indian team sprit and we will go back to the same old selection policy of state quota system then merit.

It may wiser not to involve him on the selection and give more privilege to the Team Coach and Manager also may be best change the captain and move forward in merit system.

Mr.Ganguly you speak a lot and do very little.

don't keep on saying that we have done good for last 2 yrs or so....
India has be made to bite dust in all the 4 one-day tournaments it has participated in.
NOTE: India has lost 3 times in a row to pakistan.

Cheers

Sehwag's partner

Ganguly must be getting daft in his old age! One of the reasons for India's recent successes in Tests is that the openers took the sting out of the attack and allowed the middle order to consolidate and build huge totals. Akaash Chopra played a vital role in forming a great partnership with Sehwag, his Delhi team mate!Chopra is a typical gutsy opener with skill and technique to play the moving ball!
Ganguly ,in order to play his favourite Yuvraj as an opener, has been harsh in his criticism of Chopra's effort to date! If Yuvraj is such a great opening material, why wasn't he tried in the recent one dayers? That would have given a hint whether he is equipped for the role! To throw him in the deep end against the likes of McGrath, Gillespie,Lee and Kasprowich is suicidal with Sehwag not playing well! Is Ganguly acting in India's interest or protecting his own position in the middle order, a normal place for Yuvraj? Whatever it is it must be a terrible disincentive to a promising opener like Chopra who doesn't seem to have the backing of his captain!
Ganguly can't seem to think straight these days judging from frequent changes to the batting order!

Chopra shld be given the chance.
by Sunny on Sep 27, 2004 10:55 PM

I think Chopra shld be the opener. In his last plays, he had done his best. Ofcourse, he has not made any big scores, still he has done some thing better. Can Yuvraj bear the openning pressure is the question ahead!!!
