Time for a change

It is time to look at the Indian Team and more so - it is time to look beyond the current Captain as well.Saurav Ganguly may have had unprecedented success as the Captain of the Indian team- but he has brought in a set of youngsters (especially batsmen) who have an attitude similar to his. Taking things for granted has become a way of life for the likes of Sehwag, Yuvraj, Laxman etc. What this team lacks are some good allrounders.Where are all the allrounders- dont say we dont have any. We just dont look for any.I wholeheartedly wish that we get a good captain soon. Being successful doesnt necessarily mean you are a good captain. Hope we get a captain who leads from front. When was the last time we saw our Captain lead from the front? What have been Saurav Ganguly's achievements for the past 2 years as a batsman? If he is solely in as the Captain- he better be the 12th man! He is neither good in batting nor bowling. Lets not talk about his fielding.
One big puzzle is who will succeed him? There is no one in the offing at present. While Rahul is the vice-captain- he doesnt have it in him to l

our bowling is good, give new & fresh batsman a chance to perform &let them gain experience so that the present seniors may feel insecure of their positions.

More interest in Commercials than Cricket and country
by sreedhar bhaskar on Sep 22, 2004 12:49 PM  | Hide replies

Our so called great players are more interested in acting in commercials than playing cricket and winning matches for the country. We have stars like Ganguly, Shewag, Yuvraj, Laxman etc, but unfortunately no real players. The main reason for our team's failure can be attributed to only one major factor ADVERTISEMENTS. The players easily earn in crores by doing commercials, why would then they play to win matches and make India proud. These selfish players should be fired immediately and an entire new Indian Team under the captaincy of Rahul Dravid should be formed.

He has to take the blame - squarely

Ganguly led the batting rot, with his irresponsible swishes & misses at three balls in the very first over, before edging the one he got out to.. is this the example he sets for his team? Contrast this with Inzi's approach when he came in with Pak in serious trouble at 3 down for 27...?? The top three, Saurav, Laxman and Sehwag were too jittery.

The seven batsmen formula is a failure... anyway, Rohan does not fit in as no 7, with his slow batting.

Our bowling, except for Pathan, was extremely mediocre.. Inzi & Yohana played the rest, including an off-colour Bhajji pretty comfortably...

Absence of Balaji was felt.. Nehra & Agarkar are too inconsistent and erratic despite their years of experience compared to the new boys... Poor Bhandari got no chance, because of nehra's surprisingly good bowling in the earlier match.

Our players tend to lose the plot in important matches.. mostly they lose the mind game, coming under unnecessary tension.

Bottom line is that the players should not have long breaks. Ironically, their performance suffers everytime they get a break.

Fitness has become a major concern... looks like these guys do not work out during the off periods.

Ganguly

It is not that the batsmen are not doing their job,it is the captain who is failing everytime. He has to lead from the front. This is quite obvious when we see Inzamam,Vaughn,Lara,Ponting etc.No use passing the buck.

Ganguly's Comments
by Ranga on Sep 21, 2004 07:45 PM

Realizing the fact that Ganguly is the most victorious captain for India, he deserves to be given "some" benefit of doubt. However, given the long string of failures, primarily due to poor leadership skills e.g., the team selection/ composition, complete lack of innovativeness, his poor batting form (scoring high against Kenya, Bangladesh and in an inconsequencial game against England), Ganguly should resign and play some Ranji before he is picked back into the team. Yuvi, Laxman should go back and play some local games too. Rohan, hopefully got his last opportunity!! Dravid should be our next captain and he should not keep in one-days - Dhoni or Karthik should done the gloves. Just my 2 cents!!
