Are you kidding me?

There is a reason he (Rohan Gavaskar) was a part of the 15-man squad. How is he going to feel if you choose someone else to replace an original squad member and not him?

It is this kind of thinking that creates rifts in the team and people like you should not only stop writing such nonsense, but also start becoming more team-oriented and less man-oriented.

It is ok to point out that Sehwag and Yuvi are out of form. It is good to bring up Aussies, because we all remember how they stood behind Damien Martyn even though he kept failing. Confidence is everything, and if the captain shows some faith in the players, they can perform better just because they know that their career does not depend on one inning or two.

Please go back to the drawing board and write something that makes logical sense.

Mr. Ashish Magotra - kindly define ''Rohan Gavaskar''
by M Rodrigues on Sep 17, 2004 02:19 PM

I think Rohan Gavaskar is a team man. He has shown a lot of promise in Australia and fits the latest ODI Standard required.

I think ODI is all about these "bits & pieces" players who really matter in the end, this was seen in India's 1983 world cup win. In India, even sehwag & yuvraj can also be called B&P according to you.

I think that against Pakistan Dravid should keep wickets and gavaskar should play. he should be used as an pinch hitter and also be given to bowl. I'm sure Ganguly will make use of him properly.

Please do not call any player bits & pieces, 'coz then I would like to know your designation, i.e. only sports or other news, etc., then don't you think where you fall, in which category.

Lack of self confidence
by Jai on Sep 17, 2004 02:15 PM

I really agree with this topic, though Sub-Continent players are Gifted, Selectors are doing the same mistake by selecting a Player with lack of confidence. Though Badani, Gautham Gambir proved to be fruitfull incase of batting at No.4 and No.1 consistently, they are not given a proper chance instead they keeps on trying with the so called batsmen at these positions.

Lets pray that the selectors will go for a change and give the youngsters a good chance to prove there talent.

Regards
Jai

draught of talent
by Gijikrishnan K S on Sep 17, 2004 12:48 PM

Its not the draught of talent, but its the lack of visionary approach from the selectors. Its foolish on their part to ignore Dinesh Mongia who did exceptionally wel in English conditions recently. Also selecters have ignored Shikkar Dhawan, the under19 opener who did a superb job in U-19 world cup and the flamboyant M S Dhoni, who is in the peak of his form after the Kenyan tour.

captain's stubborness
by Alfred on Sep 17, 2004 09:18 AM

I agree with your thoughts to a certain extent but Ganguly has had a major say in selection matters since he became the captain.his stubborness in keeping Dravid as the ODI keeper, reluctance to include Murali and his recent comments about the keeper slots show that he is only thinking about the short term.It is time the selectors do think about grooming youngters.

not everything true

Less bench strength? The same Dinesh Mongia is still around, the same Gautam Gambhir is still around and performing well..so what do you exactly mean when you say they were there sometime back but not now? Sehwag in Red? I wouldnt say atleast if the assessment is based on purely this match..i think his innings should have given him good enough confidence. Yuvi..yeah its disappointing. He seem to have lot of issues against spin bowling and I'm not quite sure if he is a good choice for number 7 at his present form. Dinesh Karthik or Gavaskar should be given chance. I think sometimes you guys go over the top to criticize selectors..after all how many wrong decisions in present team are made? probably just 1..and that too done after using veto of board president! How about the likes of Balaji, who according to all you guys was not upto international standards sometime back. We gotta either bash them and at the same time give them credit when they deserve or just keep our mouth shut even though its tempting to bash them when everything is not going the right way!

MISTAKE OF SELECTORS
by pbaskar on Sep 17, 2004 01:23 AM

Dear sir as long as India is democarasy country some body can enjoy and somebody can't so Viru and Yuva.
These people has some influence that they can talk
more than they play. And India very poor and BCCI can't find other players than these two for team. Nowdays BCCI knows only some players like these two are great because they might have scored some good knock (not knocks) in rare instance and they will talking before start of any tour. That is how Viru and Yuva enjoing now. Frankly the Indian selectors don't have guts to drop these two realy. And the coach
not talking about these two otherwise he would have watched closely the match agaist Kenaya that Viru vasted lot balls before doind suicide. In that match Viru place would have been given some body what would Idia loose. Come on selectors go back when great Kapil and Gavaskar period.Or we Indian fans will agree with current selectors that we are fools because we are simply fools are cricket cracy.
Thanks

This is to say that why dont the indian cricket management shuffle the batting order as 3 of the top 6 r yet to perform at their best.
i think they should encourage the young wicketkeeper batsman dinesh karthik to open in some of thr crucial matches.
Who know he might click like sewhag clicked in the match against newzealand and the india get a a wanted wicketkeeper batsman for which there were in search for a very long time and give relief to rahul dravid who can then totally concentrate on batiing
From,
Pratik
