This is for Prem Panicker
by Ramesh Kapoor on Sep 13, 2004 08:13 AM

At one time Prem was critical of Jagmohan Dalmiya returning as BCCI chief having served as BCCI President once before. It was the question of power hungry Jagmohan who enjoyed being the head of ICC and BCCI. He however deserves a credit for enriching BCCI with some crafty moves with monetry wealth notwithstanding his desire to open relations with Pakistan and getting Vajpayee to approve the tour 2004.

Now getting appointed as Patron-in-Chief is comprable to Sonia Gandhi's presidency of the Congress party which has been the domain of the Nehry/Gandhi dynasty. I expect some comments from Prem on this one.

Is Dalmia a Demi God?

It would be impossible to believe that these 4 Legal Luminaries -Arun Jaitley, Sudhir Nanavati, Shashank Manohar and Ranbir Singh Mahendra have never lost a case in a court. However BCCI takes their advice as Gospel and goes ahead with the appointment of Dalmia despite a court order from the High Court of Bhopal. Is it arrogance or an attitude because of Money Power?

The Castro of Indian Cricket

Hail Dalmia! Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. No person should be given such an overarching authority. If this deal goes through, God save Indian Cricket from administrative tyranny. Surprised that no body in BCCI has the guts to boot this powermonger out. Kudos to whoever filed the petition in Bhopal.

Dalmiya named patron-in-chief

Is anyone still looking for reasons for our pathetic standing in world sports, Olympics and such?

Manipulators, moneybags and politicians (or frauds in general) hungry for titles and posts and supplicants appointing 'legal luminaries' to go over judicial decisions with a toothcomb and finding ways to annoint their Gods with Patron-in-Chief kind of appalling titles that are a throw-back to the Raj days.

Was any cricket discussed, BTW?

If a Post called Patron in Chief is going to be some thing like "Chairman Emeritus" an honourary title No one will object. The problem with BCCI is it has too many Politicians, who have no time to devote enough time for their main job wanting to be the President of the State Boards. Lalu Yadav and Arun jaitley included. By creating the new post citing the old rule in the BCCI books ALL these Chamchas are only making Dalmia a Permanent Asset which in the long run will turn out to be a liability. When the time comes no one will want to contest the Post of the President of BCCI since it will be a Dummy. Will some one clarify if this Patron in Chief Business has a time frame?

Dalmiya deserves to be Patron-in-Chief
by Bhushan Kolleri on Sep 12, 2004 06:51 PM

I believe Jagmohan Dalmiya truly deserves to be the Patron-in-Chief of BCCI. Despite what his detractors say, he has been the only chief of a sports organization in India to have had driven the standards of performance of the team to international standards.

From being the step-children of cricket, India dictates the terms in the cricketing world today, only because of the astute leadership of Jagmohan Dalmiya.

If Sachin Tendulkar has been the hero on the field for India, Jagmohan Dalmiya has been the unsung equivalent behind the scene for us.

Dalmiya sets the benchmark in sports management in India. Notwithstanding the lame argument that cricket has more money and mass appeal than other sports, heads of sports organizations can learn a thing or two from him.

No Monarchy on BCCI
by chakravarthy on Sep 12, 2004 05:49 PM

Dalmiya has served BCCI long enough to quit. No person should be allowed to stay in such sensitive postions. That only makes way for uncalled controversies and groupism within BCCI and to everyone involved with cricket.
The move to create a new post 'Patron in Chief' is totally uncalled for. What is the next BCCI President going to do with limited powers? Just because Dalmiyas term as president comes to an end this post is being created. Why wasn't this done all these years when he was its president? And the big question- what is the need for this new post? What powers are he going to grab and what powers are he going to leave to the BCCI President? How long does he remain as the Chief....till he dies? Whats the term of the Chief and how is he elected....every 6 months/1 year?
It is well known that BCCI is a very profitable sporting body. There are already controversies like the proximity of Ganguly and Dalmiya who are believed to be very close. Now this move is going to set bad trends for Indian Cricket.
Everybody please wake up and stop this monarchy.
