Present Indian Cricket team - Kenya match ICC
by G.Narasimhan on Sep 13, 2004 01:39 AM

I do agree about the comments on VVS Laxman. But the Arrogance of Ganguly and his captaincy needs lots of rethinking.

The Team scored 290 but could not bowl out kenya in 50 overs. That Shows the hollowness in bowling and fielding capability of Indian side.. Agarkar is a burden to the team. Why he is being selected at all. There are lots of new comers and they can be given chances.

Laxman suits for Plan B.Keep him.
by Tejo on Sep 13, 2004 12:30 AM

I dont agree with this.

Laxman is needed 3,4 or even 5 positions.

He is our great bet in Plan B.We never understant to plan for plan B.

We always things every thing goes right and things like that. But we never plan for sudden collapse of wikets which we generally see.

In that cases I think Laxman can stick to wicket and not only maintain the innings but also (may be ) give a winning innings (forgot 281 in Culcatta even though that is Test match we can see his fighting attitude).

So he is player who can stabilize inning.

If every thing is going well then he shd play from 15 to 35 overs and keep the run-rate consistent. That shd be his Plan A job.

Laxman doesnt deserve a place in the ODI team
by Mani Karthik on Sep 12, 2004 10:07 PM

I cant agree more with the article. Why doesnt someone let the selectors know that he doesnt have to be picked just because he is one the best test players India has produced. With Karthik making a difference behind the stumps, I guess its high time we went with 6 batsmen and a keeper.

Review: One for the team from ganguly

Excellent report. I think this report should be given as imposition to our "playing-11 selectors".

Kenya no competition
by vishwesh on Sep 12, 2004 06:10 PM

Kenya is far too docile a team to ven offer any kind of resistance. they offered none to the A sides of India and Pak. So the victory against them is of no consequence. to speak of the batsmen 290 is a paltry total (at least against Kenya) and after looking at 75/6 look where Kenya finished. It is little wonder then why India keeps looking. No killer instinct at all. There is nothing much to be gleaned from this match except that they can bat against a team that shows no improvement.

Stop writing about selfish players
by Manjit Singh on Sep 12, 2004 05:38 PM

dear prem

I wonder what inspires you writing these big pieces about guys whom you yourself say "...Today's innings was one for the team.." It means you accept that 'they' have always thought of themselves rather than throwing themselves for team cause as our younsgers do.

Come on man, stop wasting our time and your time by writing about players who never play for team. Wrtie about selfless guys like Kaif, Yuvraj etc. Why don't u write a peice for Kaif...such a talented young man but wasted for last 3 years at no. 7. u feel bad if Laxman is shuffled up and down the order, did you ever think of Kaif who inspite of making 2 back to back half centuries was kept in the pavallion? Once in a blue moon he will be sent at no. 3, he will prove it right by performance but the next match he will be again in the same spot? You must be knowing that he bowls regularly for UP and has taken many wickets in under-19 worldcup, did you ever write why he has never been tried? Ganguli has tried mongia, badani, Sehwag, rohan than what's wrong in trying Kaif?

Come on, we should be fair enough. Write something about a young guy who is a great team man, who never complains and just performs!!!

Laxman is a misfit
by amar george on Sep 12, 2004 01:07 PM

Hi

I too beleive that laxman is a misfit in the one day team.

I think six batsman are enough and using a specialist keeper is always a good idea. I think Irfan Pathan should be expected to strike a few blows in the end. He has the talent.

It is about time Kumble was taken out of the one day plans. He is not going to play the world cup in 2007. He is a liability in the field and his batting....well the less I say the better it will be. His is treated with total disrespect by teams like pakisatan and australia. And we know he is not going to get better.

Dravid at number 3
by Shashank on Sep 12, 2004 01:02 PM

VVS might be very special for the tests but I hold a view that he creates more problems in the ODI side than benefits. Just coz he cant play anywhere else, Dravid has to come down the order and play unnaturally.

Would love to see Rahul where he belongs - number 3 and Laxman only in the test side.
