Team India losing!
by Akshat Jha on Sep 14, 2004 10:38 AM

The results simply show the gap between India and Australia. Australian players also have lay-offs but they don't lose their rhythm like we have, this season.

Are the Australians more skillfull or more professional?

Indian cricket
by Parag Shastri on Sep 14, 2004 01:42 AM

Hi! Ashish,
I feel the fans of Indian cricket team are not criticizing the defeat, but rather attitude of Indian cricketers. I being an ardent follower of Indian cricket feel the same way. Here are my thoughts:
1. If a long lay over results in batting debacles than cricketers should not have long layovers. Matches need to be spaced accordingly.
2. I cannot believe complete failure of all top batsmen. That does not seem to make sense. It clearly indicates lack of desire to win or lack of interest in that particular game. For example, Sehwag charging down the track against Kenya and getting out is simply unacceptable.
3. I think Indian bowling is really good lately and if our batsmen are best in the world than results should speak for themselves. I feel we have the best batsmen and hence it clearly points to lack of committment. And that I lament loundly and dejectedly.

Team India losses

I agree with your objectivity focus. But let us not forget one simple fact: when Team India loses, it loses pretty badly. It is this careless attitude that most Team India fan despise. Come on, give a fight and lose with heads held high. Not evey game is like World cup final where Australia reamed us a new one..

we should stop changing sides.
by Sumaiya on Sep 11, 2004 07:45 PM

Okay this is the first time i am writing here althou i have been reading here since the last 4 years. Anyways i have been interested in cricket like crazy since the world cup of 96. And trust me i have never stopped supporting the indian team whether they win or loss. I am writing here today because i have lost my patience now as whenever Indian team wins people become crazy and start singing songs for it and as soon as they lose one they criticize them as they have been robbed. I mean c'mon! Noone likes losing. The Indian team i beleive is one of the most underpressured team in the world. So many people have expectations from them. I could say i totally agree with Ashish here in this case. The team is trying its best and sometimes things just dont go your way. I am pretty sure all it needs is 1 victory which is certainly around the corner. And as the team has'nt given up, it wont be that difficult. I mean i havent been watching cricket since i left India, but have always kept an eye on the scores and the news about it. Beleive me , i have had picked up fights with my friends over this whole scenerio as turning your back on the team as soon as they lose. Always support OUR TEAM!

I agree

I agree with your thoughs Ashish. I often tend to believe that infact lots of Indian fans dont really mean when they over criticize our players and there definitely hope and respect for our players. However there remains the people who themselves probably have never gone through the pressure of success in life , who get spurred from this hype and do unthinkable of burning effigies, throwing stones at homes and all this crap. All they need to think is put themselves in the picture, think of their job and think would they accept their homes be stoned and their family be emberrassed for failing to , say, successfully finish one project in whichever job they are doing? ofcourse not..so then why criketers? Having expections is perfectly alright and getting disappointed too..but its not our job to take such drastic action - cricket board is there for it and surely they are not dumb. That brings me to question one thing..why not have democratic way of selecting Indian selection panel and president? After all cricket is next best thing in India isnt it? (may be first best thing!! but just giving room to keep everyone's personal thing at number one!)

What has happened, Ashish!
by Yasho on Sep 10, 2004 09:47 PM

A see different but very correct tone in your articles and reports recently. I had stopped reading you as well as Faisal or Prem, till recently. What made you change. Coming out of influence of likes of Faisal and Prem kinds. This articles is a perfect example of "Patrakarita, where one doesnt blow positives or negatives out of proportion and look at the facts obectively. Relate them with the historical data and come up with a obejective and balanced but healthy criticism or praise. I bet, if you keep this current attitude of writting you will be respected . Negativity shall be abondoned from Indian life as it do not produces good results. Support your team come hail or high water because they are our warriors. They are the one, who brings glory and pride to our country,

It's all about heart...
by Bunty on Sep 10, 2004 08:48 PM

I'm all for supporting the boyz through thick and thin...only as long as they are giving it all and fighting it out. And yeah, I think it's not unfair to expect them do give it all - everytime! I personally don't care for results, as long as it's the absolute best they can do. And what is wrong with expecting guys standing in as 'Team India' to represent the best that all of us aspire to be and can be. What bigger honor can there be than to have 'India' emblazoned on your cricket shirt? With that comes an obligation to put your best foot forward - everytime, results be damned! The first two matches in the NatWest series were a disgrace for the team - again not for losing, but in how they lost. Neither us fans, nor the team, should forget this.

Cheers,
Bunty

total agreement with the article, backing the boys!
by heena malhotra on Sep 10, 2004 08:01 PM

I totally agree with this article, 'Backing the boys'! Its very easy to sit, watch and criticize people around u. But people should bear in mind that no one is perfect, infact you tend to learn a lot through defeat. 'Defeat is a temporary condition, giving up is what makes it permanent'. And i don't think our team has given up. This is evident from the last match of the Natwest series. Our team had the zest to perform and better their previous performance. I think we should congratulate them for this. In fact this is the time to back your country not turn your back towards it.

Its not the defeat, its the manner in which we are defeated.
by sportty on Sep 10, 2004 07:47 PM

Why is it not the case with Aussie team. Have you ever seen them going down without a fight ? Have you seen them going down spinelessly the way indian team does.

why talk of Aussie ? Lets take a New Zealand they have no super stars like india does. But still they play hard and go down fighting till the last ball. Its not the case with indian team. How is that top 7 batsman all of them loosing touch, having a slump in batting ? Its NOT Possible there is something other than batting slump. Attitude, determination, etc etc.

I agree that we should accept defeat, but not in such spineless performance. Let them go down fight till the last ball, then I agree.

Even if we consider that all the batsman are having a slump in their batting, then in that case why are they in the team, remove the worse ones and bring in the India A team or other better performers. Thats where we differ from the world class team like australia.
