Mongia and Gavaskar
by Yogesh H on Sep 09, 2004 12:47 PM  | Hide replies

Dinesh Mongia has been given N number of chances uptill now. He has failed again and again and again. In fact it was a ridiculous decision by the Indian selectors to select Dinesh Mongia instead of VVS Laxman in the 2003 World Cup. And did he do anything worth noting in that series ? NO !! His 30 odd runs in the match against England using double the number of balls almost cost India the match until Yuvaraj Singh changed the course of the innings. He remained in the side for so many days only on the basis of that 159 against that weak Zimbabwean team (that too with the help of poor umpiring decisions. He was struck on the pads many times in that innings but was never declared LBW). His technique is not great either. He is only good at playing cut and pull shots and if he is denied the width finds it difficult to score runs. The two contenders for that spot Mongia and Hemang Badani have been given so many chances (as if they are the son-in-laws of the Indian selectors) and have hardly done anything. Then why not give enough chances to Rohan Gavaskar. He has a much more correct technique than the other two and if promoted in the batting order will do much better than Mongia/Badani.

If everybody wants to play in the top order, Indian team can better go with only 5 or 6 committed players. All the rest useless selfish players can straightaway be dropped. How these players are different from the fame selfish Sachin. Everybody wants to play for records and fame and who cares for team result. Luckily we have people like Dravid.

Mongia's time is over!
by Muraidhar Rao on Sep 08, 2004 02:28 PM

Dinesh Mongia is a finr gentleman cricketer no doubt. But what does he mean that he is going to wait for his time? His time is finished. This fellow was given more than his adequate share of chances and got out cheaply every time he went in to bat. He was even selected ahead of Laxman in the world cup. But Dinesh Mongia squandered all his chances and did nothing worthwhile to merit his selection. His contribution in the form of consistent failures speaks for itself. Even though Rohan Gavaskar's selection is also a case of blatant nepotism at least he has not been given so many chances as Dinesh Mongia. Because of selfishness among stupid BCCI bosses like Gavaskar and Dalmiya deserving players in current batting form like Dhoni,Jadhav and Gambhir have been robbed of their rightful selection based on merit. But since when have Indian selectors selected players mainly on merit?

Plight of Indian Cricket, Kirmani pleases Sunil Gavaskar
by debasis on Sep 08, 2004 10:46 AM  | Hide replies

Dear All,

We all must see the way the selection is done bby BCCI. Rohan Gavaskar is preferred to Dinesh mongia and one like Hemang Badani. This is funny! Only for the former's so called illustrious surname. This I must call the nadir of Indian cricket. The averages of this great youngman, the son of Sunil GAvaskr is lower than Parthiv patel and Irfan Pathan. But still he can make it to the 14 memebered Indian squad. Sayed kirmani is paying back the debts to Sunny by turning blind to the talents and statistics and continuing with the preferential treatment to his son. As we all know, being in the 14 -15 mebersed squad one can easily earn 50-90 lakhs for the champions trophy. Good, So who the hell is bothered abt the talent or the impartial selection? So this message must be sent to all the concerned as this is a matter of great concern.

Get your facts right, man !!!

How do you judge Gavaskar in 9 matches only ?

Badani and Mongia are only good enough to play in Indian domestic cricket !
