ESPN should have the advantage
by Sandeep Rajan on Sep 10, 2004 06:39 PM

As we all know that espn star has defined he cricket in our country since the cable came into its existence they should have been given priority as they have a long and most valuable experience in the telecasting of live matches. I think they are ditched.

Hope the court decision goes in favour of ESPN-STAR.

Dear All,
ESPN-STAR has a very good commentry team. The exrerience these people have in each aspect of broadcasting of the game can not be matched by anyone else in country. Not by Zee at least, who are yet to launch their sports channel.
I think a fresh bid should be offered.
Moreover a new private channel may increase their rates during matches. We have experienced tis by Tens sports & Max. So ESPN-STARis the best choice. Anybody would not like to watch matches on DD Sports.
So all the best ESPNSTAR....

Come of Age ESPN-Star

The on going row between Zee and ESPN-Star is very interesting. To think that over a billion people and we have performed very poorly in the Olympics and we are fighting street fights (almost) over a game that is a hangover from our colonial past.

Cricket is neither a Olympic or is a world sport. Even in this game we hardly perform but our generous public always ready forget and forgive. Just wait India winning aganist Kenya In the Champions trophy wiull be celebrated as if we have won the world cup!!.

To add to the sordid tale the rwow betwen ESPN and ZEE. This row has shown the ugly side of commercial crass that has enterted into indian cricket.

Admited that Zee is no angel the way that ESPN-Star have reacted leaves a very bad taste in the mouth. To malign a rival and mouth it is not being a sport (channel) at all.

It is ridiculous the way that ESPN says that Zee does not have production capabilities. If that is the case even ESPN star also does not have any production capabilities .Come of age ESPN think broader and if you have lost the bid be mature and be more prepared in the future and remember you have milked Indian cricket and its others turn to do the same.

The last line of your mail suggests the typical Zee mentality. All you can see is how ESS has been milking Indian Cricket! But of course, you will not choose to see what ESS has done to bring themselves in this position! ESS has brought cricket broadcast to this level by roping in all the credible stars and by bringing in several segments to bring out the nuances of cricket!!! They have single-handedly built the market for professional cricket broadcast in India. SET MAX tried its best to compete with ESS, but unfortunately Charu, Mandy and their gang are nowhere near the Class of Harsha and his gang.
Cricket might not be a world sport, nor is it an Olympic sport... but its one sport where our country holds some credibility. Do you have a problem with that?? And as for Zee's production capabilities...
What stopped Zee from contending to broadcast India's matches before now?? The reason is it never had the foresight! 4 yrs. back Star Plus came with KBC... the nation was on fire... Zee had a bright idea of going one step further... came up with Sawaal Dus Karod Ka... Rest is history!
And going by how Z won the bidding, one can guess how sincere they are going to be with quality!

Zee does not deserve the telecast rights
by Reuben S M on Sep 07, 2004 01:37 AM  | Hide replies

Dear All,

I strongly believe that ESPN-STAR has defined the way Cricket is understood and enjoyed in our Country. They have a throughly professional team of presenters and commentators who can be matched by none. We suffered during the World Cup and the Asia Cup with Sony Max's pathetic commentary teams. Being a former great of Indian Cricket does not qualify one as a good television presenter or commentator.

Again, Zee is launching a new channel. Let them establish themselves with domestic cricket broadcasts and then turn to international cricket, especially involving India.

Hope the court decision goes in favour of ESPN-STAR.

espn & star Are behaving like losers
by hemant on Sep 06, 2004 11:32 PM  | Hide replies

Espn star should accept the fact that zee has bided more. And Why should bcci lose on money & give the rights to espn when same quality of picture is given by their compitators & + bcci earning more. It is a very fare deal & why will anyone deal with anything less when one can have more. And the point that the rules were changed then it supremly lies in the hands of bcci to make or change rules, espn cannot make rules which will benifit them, they should have bided more.... (they are losers & by filing the case they are unnecessary spoiling their relations with bcci)

ESPN is only the right choice
by Prasenjeet on Sep 06, 2004 11:29 PM

it is very unfair to espn that they could not get the rights of the telecast. everyone knows that they are the best. since a decade or so they have been giving a fabulous amount of live cricket without any flaws. they are the best.

ESPN-Star Sports move court
by Gurneet on Sep 06, 2004 11:24 PM

Well after reading this news item, i can clearly smell some hanky-panky by BCCI- and ofcourse the channel involved.
ok it could have been some personal prejudice or some tensions in the relations between the decision making people in BCCI with ESPNstar but then the question is why Zee?
well frankly speaking i have lost interest in cricket because of these silly little things. the world cup spoiled SINGLE HANDEDLY by Mandira Bedi. shekhar suman is making a fool of himself and poor little game.

Caution is the word for these media people. or else the fan following of cricket in india will be adversely affected.

EX-CRICKET LOVER.
