Quaiyum Khan
Good Captaincy
by Quaiyum Khan on Sep 07, 2004 02:02 PM

Congratulations Saurav! Ganguly's performance was excellent in this match. Not only he batted well but also performed as a captain. His captaincy was worth watching. He rotated his bowlers very well and field placement was very good. The whole indian team performed exceptionally well. i hope they'll continue this performance in Champion's Trophy.
Team India jeet jao!

Don't conclude....
by satya on Sep 07, 2004 08:56 AM

That we won the last one-dayer against England is by no means a conclusion that we have regained our winning touch. We have to perform consistently this way. Flintoff's absence was defintely felt, otherwise it would have been another tough game for us. I would have given much more credit had we performed so in the presence of Flintoff.

We Indians have the tendency to arrive at premature conclusions and then feel fooled again when our team gets into losing mode. The point is - wait and watch.

VENKATARAMAN BALAJI
Charismatic Captain Ganguly
by VENKATARAMAN BALAJI on Sep 06, 2004 05:05 PM

A total of 90 out of 141 minus extras is about 65% of runs with 45% of strike, isn't awesome. Spare our captain for a while. He is one of the best strikers of the lot with ODI runs next to only Sachin & Lara. It is true that we did not collectively perform well since Asia Cup.

Let us not screw up the team spirit by being cynical when support is the need of the hour for wishing our team for a good show and luck for ICC Championship.

Remember, no one predicted Major Rajyavardhan Rathore for Olympic medal before the games, still it is because of Major's efforts, India is on the Medal Tally.

We need to learn to back our team when it goes to bad patch. That will help the team to come out with all guns firing for ICC Champions Trophy.

india won finally but still there is immense room for improvement especially on the selection front.
injured tendular was replaced by out of place rohan gavaskar, thbis is something very difficult to understand.
you need to selct a person who can stake claim to play in 11.
with all due respect to dinesh kartik, india should have got mahinder singh Dhoni ad replacement for tendulkar, as he looks one batsman +wicket keeper who can solve problems of india team pertaining the specialized department.

ICC's edict on Pepsi products only during the trophy matches
by Madhu on Sep 06, 2004 02:09 PM

The ICC's edict on allowing only Pepsi products into the stands for the ICC matches may not go down well with the paying public. I am not sure if this legally permissible. Correct me if I am wrong, but can ICC tell a spectator that he should drink only such and such soft drink and eat only a particular brand of chips etc?? Looks like they are inviting a legal sock in the eye.....

In anticipation of some major gadbad on this issue.......

Win at last, but ...
by Madhu on Sep 06, 2004 02:01 PM

Congrats to Sourav and his team for this win. I always felt that if Sourav clicked he will lift the whole team up. Even in the Australian series, the Indians were 4 down for something under 100 in the test match, before Sourav came in played a blinder, taking the attack to the Aussies, who did not know what hit them. He is an inspiring lad and came up with the goods yesterday. However, this victory would not have been possible but for the two quicks striking decisive blows up front, followed by good work by Bhajji and Kumble. Even Yuvraj bowled splendidly...

The umpiring was terrible. You mentioned Laxman's escape but turned a blind eye to Giles, who was probably both LBW and caught of the same ball. Many other LBW decisions went against Nehra who bowled wonderfully and should have ended up with more in the kitty, if there were better umpires. Overall, the standard of umpiring was below par.

Let us hope this win has turned the tide for Sourav's team and they go into the ICC matches in a better form than the last few series.

All the best, Team India.
