Team participation and grouping and duckworth method
by patanjali on Sep 14, 2004 08:28 PM

Ragrding team participation it may be noted that all the team having almost same standings (specially USA, Kenya & bangladesh) may be kept in one group so that a keen competition can be obtained. If we put the new entraints or low profile side in front of world champions or extra ordinary players then it foolish to expect raised performance from these players.

Regarding duckworth system it is better to review this system in view ofd the playing condition in different countries and also providing equal opportuinity to team batting secone.

Team pratition

the team partions in ICC Champions Trophy 2004 is improper as each group has 2 major heads and a entry-level team, which mostly will not be able to enter into semifinals r even win amtch playing against the other two. so it should be formed in such a way as to clash 2 or 3 entry level teams to bring out their talents and also to make them experience abetter playing with the seniors.

14 man squad rule needed to replaced by 15
by Subhojit Bhattacharya on Sep 02, 2004 12:39 PM

While all the other tournament rules adopted by ICC for the ICC Champions Trophy to be held in England is well justified, ICC should have been more considerate by asking the teams to pick a 15 man strong squad instead of the present 14. This rule of 15 man is followed in the World Cup as well and more-so its important because of the fact that as the teams do not get any warm-up matches prior to the tournament in England, they are not sure what is the best possible combination to be fielded, and so a 15-man squad would have given them more flexibility in team selection. This rule may come down heavily particularly for the likes of players such as Rohan Gavaskar, who, will have to board the flight back home even if he plays superbly in Natwetst Challenge for instance.

Minimum Overs
by Raghu on Sep 02, 2004 12:44 AM  | Hide replies

The 20 overs mimumum for a result is unfair for the team bowling second as the team batting second will make full use of the first 15 overs and just 5 overs after that is too less for a team to defend and reduce the scoring rate.

It should remain at 25 overs minimum.

If you didnt know, when the total overs are reduced, the number of overs with fielding restrictions also comes down.
