You make a good point about whether they deserve what they earn. It should not be too difficult to fix - Make their 50% of their earnings performance based. Now that you have many people's attention, why not lobby for this formula (I'm not so hung up on 50% - anything would do it for me if we could atleast move in that direction). The "performance" factor should include "team results" and an individual's contribution - If the team loses, nobody should get anything in the performance category (the idea is to eliminate people playing for one's self) - On the other hand, when the team wins, the individuals who contribute most (in runs, wickets, and catches) do get what they deserve.
I agree with you sir. 100%. Frankly I believe that our cricketers are the most overpaid and overrated. They simply are not worth that adulation. Talking about being the second best side, do they have anything like the champions. To think about challenging the top side, you need to go a few yards more them. Have you ever seen Australian teams say that they are rusty after a long break, that's why they didnot play good cricket? How about saying that we are not into our winning ways, and we still need time to find our feet ? The truth is that John Wright has not done a good job. As long as India was winning, everything looked rosy. But even after so much of international exposure, if Ganguly doesnot know or want to ground his bat in a proper fashion while running between wickets, what has John done for the team ? I believe in Dravid. He has just been simply phenomenal and the dark horse of this era of Indian cricket. He is a true cricketer, bcos his basics are excellent. You will never see Dravid out bcos he didnot ground his bat correctly, or he is susceptible to the short ball or he doesnot move his feet. Indian cricketers donot merit such sums but deserve a kick @ 'you know where'!
I agree every bit of what you said. Here in our country, every one makes money at the behest of us, the fans. If not for the popularity of the game in this country and obviously our economic power, can the BCCI & others, get the grudging respect (none of which they deserve)? After all why do sponsorers pump in so much money, it is because of the viewing public?
So what do we get in return? Abysmal performances....
I am not being emotional about losing one test match, but the facts as brought out by you, needs some serious thinking & some one needs to bell the cat.
Hats off to Arvind. I stronly agree with him that Indian Tean should be able to carry its own weight rather than being dependent on a sigle person. We failed to create a pool of talent and we are not giving opportunuties to the second best. We are nurturing just one breed and their poor run is being ignored. All the players feel so secured in the team that they are really bothered about their performance. And I thank Rediff for publishing such a bold views. The game should grow, not merely people.
An excellent article ! This indian team deserves absolutely no pie that they have got !
An ideal indian wicket that turns and keeps low, 2 supposedly great spinners in the team, not to forget the part time spinners, and all they cud manage to do was give a young debutant a century, in fact a mammoth 151!
A supposedly tall batting order with all high earning names....what did they manage ?
well they were bowled out twice for little scores!!
Please Mr.Ganguly and co....return your money...and please donate all the undeserved money to social service organisations.....
Some said that don't compare our Indian team with Aussie...If so then why they want a winm against them. If it an International team we need to be in that standard..else better to watch how they are playing and how thier foot is moving towards each ball. Is Sourav is eligible for taking the captaincy for one more series..defintly not. Performing with Kenya and Bangladesh and keeping the captaincy won't make much difference. Time has come for the damly needed reformation for our so called International cricket team. Players performing in one match out of 10 should be thrown away..Even youngsters can make things better. Karthik is a good option for Patel. Badani is a good option for Yuvraj. Kaif is a good option for Sourav. If they are not doing any sort of reformation...then it is time for us to forget INTERNATIONAL CRICKET in India.
I fully agree with the views of the columnist. Pay them if they perform. The amount paid should be in the ratio of say 50:50....... 50% is fixed and the remaining 50% is payable only if they make runs, take wickets or take catches.
