Ashish Magotra: India's greatest bowler ever
by sreekanth reddy k on Oct 13, 2004 04:06 PM

The article quotes "Kapil Dev needed 131 Tests to reach 434 wickets. Kumble in 85 matches has reached 400."

You can't compare kapil's 434 wicket performance with any bowler because he got those wickets on a track where there is nothing for the seamers and in the era where virtually no seamers exist in indian cricket.

Even after 10 years india couldn't find a replacement for kapil dev but not the case with kumble. Kumble might be consistent in his length but not with his performance. Still he has a berth in the squad. Thanks to indian cricket and selectors.

Is Kumble the greatest
by Ali on Oct 12, 2004 09:58 PM

Rubbish. Calling Kumble the greatest is totally rubbish. The writer perhaps has not seen Vinoo Mankad, E. Prasanna, Bhishen Bedi,S.Venkataragahavan, B. Chandrashekhar. All these bowlers were very effective on any pitch and in any condition. I forget the number of times Kumble has not been able to take wickets in a fourth innings on a fifth day. His performances abroad are very ordinary.

Greatest Bowler? eh?
by Zeus on Oct 10, 2004 05:45 PM  | Hide replies

A crappy bowler who cant take wickets except in crumbling pitches, and a crappier journalist who has no clue how to use superlatives in writing. Losers, Move on to something useful.

Listen buddy...perhaps Ashish Magotra went a lil overboard with the superlatives, but there's no call for flinging the yellow stuff at the fan, especially in a public room. If Kumble were a 'crappy' bowler, I'm sure he wouldn't have had the successes that he's earned. Unless Your Royal Highness believes all the batsmen were crappy too. I do not know if he is the 'greatest' Indian bowler because he will soon be the one with the most wickets. But that yardstick applies to Kapil as well. So lets just accept that each is a great bowler in his own right, and leave the 'est' part to journos and cricket romantics posing as historians.:)

I think he is one of the greatest bowlers India can ever produce
by rohan on Oct 09, 2004 06:18 PM

I supose,Anil Kumble taking wicketnumber 400 is not at all a surprise.Thats coz he is such a great bowler,he is so patient,so perseverant, and though he has been dropped by the so called India's best skipper ganguly,he shows the he is the quality spinner, better than harbhajan.Bhajji hardly does what kumble does,he really doesn;t skid the ball through,he hardly produces a faster one,nor does he draw the batsmen forward, how dare do u call him a WONDERFUL spinner!Remember, kumble is always BETTER than bhajji!Hey sourav have some sense, since 2003 WC,whenever u have dropped kumble in a final,u have lost!

India's greatest bowler ever!
by Nadeem on Oct 09, 2004 04:08 AM

Absolutely! There is no doubt about the fact that Kumble is India's greatest bowler. In fact, he is also the greatest match winner India has ever produced. Without Kumble, Indian cricket would not have achieved the results they have in the past 15 years. To all those people who complain that ehe has not done well abroad, Hey no other bowler has done as much as he has in India. Lets applaud it. He has won more matches for India than any other cricketer.
Keep it up Kumble!

Is Kumble really a spinner ??
by Maaz on Oct 08, 2004 11:43 AM  | Hide replies

Can Kumble even turn the ball ??
He is able to survive only because India plays a lot of cricket on Indian grounds. Kumbles presence is not producing good leg spinners for India by not giving them enough chances whereas he is always his usual self playing well in India and bogging down elsewhere.

This is the most stupid opinoin we might have ever heard about cricket. Did you know the number of wickets he got in Australia when we played last? Any idea what he did in Pakistan early this year? Check out the statistics before speaking. Have the modesty to congratulate him on his 400 wickets. That takes lot of courage to get 400! You can turn the ball a mile, but may not get you wickets. Where are the so called leg spinners in India??? Spot them first!

Kumble is a Great Bowler and deserves to get Past Kapil and become India's Highest wicket-taker.But is he India's Greatest Bowler?.It is highly debatable. No bowler has won more Test matches for India than Kumble. But Chandra has won more tests Abroad

Mate

Ind didnt win the test in Sydney like you report. They won in Adelaide, drew at the Gabba and SCG and lost at the MCG.

Check the stats before you write, is it too much to ask?
