Steve Waugh, Ganguly and the short ball
by Yogesh H on Oct 06, 2004 07:33 PM

It is debatable ! Whether Ganguly is uncomfortable against the short ball or is it Steve Waugh ! Waugh must be remembering that Agarkar short delivery in the first test in the 2003-04 series in Australia, which hit him on his forearm. It seemed that he had closed his eyes when he saw htat the ball was pitched short.

And Agarkar is only a medium pace bowler ......

There he is again. Though Steve Waugh has retired, he's still playing mind games on the Indian batsmen with these comments.

Well........

Well Laxman's poor footwork has sunk Australia time and again in both forms of Cricket hasn't it? If there is one batsmen who will not be overawed by the situation it's Yuvraj and there is substantial proof for this.

Come on Waugh, you now better than to fill up Cricket columns with words that don't make any sense.

Waugh's crap!
by Maz on Oct 05, 2004 06:09 PM

.....A classic case of sour grapes!.....Another heap load of @##% from some-1 who only haz 1 Test Hundred in 9 Tests on Indian soil!.....He can't play spin!....Tendulkar has many more hundreds in Australia!..... Laxman & Dravid ave more Test Centuries in Australia than 1 (in fewer Tests than Waugh's 9)!.....Ganguly haz a 100 (that masterpiece in Brisbane) in Australia in only 7 Tests!.....Itz time Waugh showz some grace......& retire gracefully from batting for the Aussies even in retirement!

Unacceptable Critics !!!
by Nitesh Ambuj on Oct 05, 2004 03:08 PM

The kind of critics given was not expected from such a greatly professional player, Steve Waugh. Its true that in recent matches the performance of Indian batsmen are not commendable but it doesnt mean they are not capable to prevail the series. Steve Waugh should not forget their home series in Australia, these were the same batsmen there too. He should learn to admire the greatness of the most capable batsmen of the world.

You fool Australian Cricketers. Cricket is a game of Gentleman and is not meant to be played with words. You all Aussies Cricketers are already known to play vocal crap cricket. You talked about the law of averages in case of Rahul Dravid but at the same time forget that the this law is universally applicable and is soon going to catch up with the Aussies Cricket in the same manner in which it went thru Windies when they peaked every department of this game in 70s and 80s

aussie batsmen's weaknesses
by pervin on Oct 05, 2004 01:48 PM

In batting and bowling the Australian have stronger but well disguised weaknesses.

1. Ricky Ponting is only a first innings player and has never delivered in a run chase. He feeds off the exlosive work of Hayden and Gilly ahead of him and knows there are decent batsmen to follow him. the most protected No. 3 in the world.

2. Gilchrist cannot play balls bowled into his body and away moving balls. His strokeplay gets inhibited and will throw away his wicket. Gives far too many chances in the 30 to 40 runs that he scores. He's a width player.
3. Hayden can be got by induced pulls off rising balls which he doesn't read too well. The pull and the cut are his standard srokes and he can be got by slanting the ball across or bowling into his body, cramping him.
4. Martyn can be got anyways. Not much of a hassle.
5. Simon Katich is the man to watch. Can get good scores.Could be suspect against quality off spin like Ponting.
6. Mcgrath and Warne, in Indian conditions can be in disarray if hit out against early. They will be the easier bowlers for the quality Indian batters if they go out with the intention to hit out.
7. Gillespie is at best accurate and not a big wicket taker.
