indian selection

I strongly criticse the very selection of Indian Squad for the Kanpur Test. They should have opted for one right hand and one left hand seam bowling and 2 specialist spinners in the form of anil kumble and harbhajhan leaving kartik out. They should have utilised sachin and shewag as a third spin bowler option at regular intervals to get breakthroughs. The game plan India opted is very bad and mindless.

1st Test Match between India V/s SA
by R . Raju on Nov 22, 2004 09:10 AM

The first test match played between Ind and SA so far has suprised everybody.
Kumble and Harbhajan were expected to run through the SA batting but the determined display of this rather inexperienced SA batting has just kept everybody guessing.
Still 3 more days to go in the first test match and we will have to wait and watch if a result could come out from a rather pacid track at Kanpur.

According to you, Ganguly, after getting Dippenaar's wicket, should have realized that it would be logical to get in his regular bowlers so that they can have a go at the new batsmen; instead he continued himself a wee-bit too long. Now had Ganguly taken a wicket or two during his so-called "wee-bit too long" spell, you (along with the critics) would have showered him with all the praises in this world; maybe by saying that it was a logical & a bold move from Ganguly - logical because he had just taken the wicket of Dippenaar & then continued bowling instead of getting his regular bowlers;after all it doesn't make any sense to revert back to the regular bowlers when he is taking wickets & bold because he had the guts to take the risk!

What did the "regular" bowlers, apart from Kumble, do on the 1st day of this Kanpur Test on a pitch that is supposed to be condusive to spin bowling coupled with South Africa's highly inexperienced batting line-up? Converting Hall, a bowler, to an opener is more than enough to gauge the side's inexperience but what did the "regular" bowlers do? Nothing other than letting them amass nearly 500 runs on the first 2 days of the Test match!!

hall showed the way how to bat with determination knowing his limitations .this should be a great lesson to the great in dian quarteret espicially the senior most (sachin) who describes his failures as due to his changed role as a senior and saurav who is use less in the team. it also applies to sehwag who is no better batsman than kaif but continues in teamonly due to his scintilations with his bat. ober all the team needs some dedicated persons like dravid sanjay bangar etc who value their wicket as their life

I think someone told Zaheer that he gives away too many runs. So now he is bowling negatively, instead of making batsmen play every ball and make mistake.

I think its time to tell him to go back to Ranji and get some one else instead.

At least now the selectors must realise that everything is wrong in the Cricket. They have been papmered and spoiled by money in form of advertisements etc.
We need new and young blood, which we have plenty around and they I am sure will be much better than these ocassional performers, who cant even run properly in the field
