the other side of story !!
by Madan on May 12, 2004 08:14 AM

i just wish we cud see the other side of the story as i feel the article is biased and narrowly charted out. it always happens that when some one gets accolades, there are always people trying to pull them down or tarnish their image. i just wish we cud really appreciate the hard work put in by this team over the past 5 years and not do things which undermines this team's dedication and commitment.

Glad to see media being trashed by our cricketers. Somehow Indian media feels that they are god for cricketers and they must obey to every single request by media. From what I have seen in few of the media conferences, even a child can say that most of the questions are indeed like trash. Better they grow up and then go to cricketers. Everytime something that doesnt happen according to their taste they start writing stuff like this.

Well, they must be tired of all the media attention. But they should have made the change gradual and not so suddenly. It makes them appear very rude.

Well done cricketers!

More than a month after winning the Multan test, if the so-called journalists can still keep asking Dravid about his declaration, I can understand his annoynance. Indian cricket journalism seems to consist of a. printing at least one picture of Sachin a day (no matter he scores 0 or 100), b. printing how someone in the world says that Sachin is the greatest batsman ever, c. criticizing someone who says Sachin is not the greatest and d. write unflattering articles about everyone else, including Dravid, Sehwag, Ganguly and Laxman.
So I am sure the journalists did something to annoy Dravid & co. You can expect the journalists to get back by beating their chests, badmouthing the cricketers by printing such articles for their 'mistreatment' but we trust our cricketers more than our so-called journalists.

Well said. The media are bitten by the Tendulkar bug and suffer from Tendulkar syndrome. Shame on them. It's sad that even though India has done well as a team by winning the series in Pakistan and still that stupid declaration issue is spoken now.

If that was the case why was no mention made of the fact that when Ganguly declared in the 4th test Against Australia in Sydney when Dravid was on 91*, nothing was said. So for the media as u said only Tendular's milestones matter and not anyone else's clearly double standards.

The media is so bad. Another example everytime ppl talk abt the 1999 series against Pakistan, they talk of Tendulkar's 136* in the first test even though it lost the match, but no mention of the fact Javagal Srinath took 13 wickets in the Asian Test championship. so taking 13 wickets is a lousy performance right, shame on u media.

One sided article
by vikram on May 10, 2004 06:49 AM

It seemed very suspicious that your article only presents one side of the story. It seems out of context with the characters of some of the players. Interestingly, you have not mentioned what the questions were. I think this is a case of irresponsible journalism.

Team India is young and deserves our respect !
by Dr. Cajetan Coelho on May 09, 2004 01:11 AM

The report says that India has won an away series only after eleven years. One notices that except for one or two players none of the other current players have been in the team for eleven years. Most are in their twenties and some even less than that. Eleven years ago many of them were in their early years of schooling. Hence it is not fair to hold them responsible for the overseas defeats for the last eleven years. One thing is for sure that our media reporters have been reporting about the overseas defeats for the last eleven years and overnight it is not easy for them to change that defeatist habit of reporting about our own team. Many of us feel that our media persons need to change their way of reporting. One does feel that some of our defeats in India and abroad have been due to the negative and demoralising impact of our writings about our own players and their lives. One feels the players have a right to expect something better from the learned scribes. Batting, bowling and fielding has made rapid advances. Only reporting has remained somewhat static. We wish our reporters all the very best in their creativity and dynamic service to the cause and glory of Team India.

Cricketers' behaviour
by Chandan on May 08, 2004 06:08 PM

Now it has become really boring for even the readers to keep hearing the same things from the cricketers since last 20 days!!

Imagine how bored cricketers will be answering the same questions again and again.

Is there a need for a media conference during every commercial shoot? Please give them some breathing space too.

Un Charitable Reporting
by C.N.Shankar on May 08, 2004 06:17 AM

This Article appears to have been written just to prove that the 'pen' is mightier than the BAT or BALL.
Ok it is not the pen but the 'key board'!The point I am making is that of late, particularly after the boom of TV news channels, it has become a habit for the media to run behind celebrities and shove the mike into their mouth asking any thing that comes to the mind. Read what the rediff has to report about the way L. Balaji's family had to go through in the name of media coverage. Be it Sehwag or Dravid all of them will want some decency from the media. Like Steve Waugh dissappearing from the MRF Ads others also will fade away after their time. Finally, I see the "togetherness" of the media when it comes to reporting anything which hurts their tribe in a big way.

Really sad!
by Lakshmi on May 08, 2004 04:10 AM  | Hide replies

It was distressing to read about such behaviour on the part of our cricketers. But I'm curious to know what questions were asked in the first place. This is the first time one is hearing of such conduct by our players. If they did not answer legitimate questions, then it is time to remind them that they are enjoying such star status only because of the adoration of the general public and the media. There are many other worthy sportspersons who are not given the five-start treatment that cricketers get. And it is our fault, too, that we have eleveated cricket playesr to the status of demigods. After all, however interesting it may be, it is a game people watch for entertainment. Secondly, there are very few cricket-playing nations and India has been playing for decades now. Doing well in cricket does not merit such extraordianry attention.

well said. I think the cricketers are getting far too much attention all the time. Also the media people are no angels. Even they just chase the cricketers far too unecessarily. Leave them alone. Why bother abt them.

I am laughing at the way the Press has gotten humiliated. It is about time, they got trashed. The immature nonsense, that most of us readers have to read, needs to be treated so - as trash. Good job, Dravid and Co. Keep it up - need not be capricious but be firm and terse with the media. That way they will not misquote you and re-interpret your answers.
