Why Patel Again ?
by ajay on Mar 04, 2004 07:18 AM

Why why why? Why do we need somebody who can't keep wickets properly and someone because of whom we could not win the test series? Insane selectors..I guess this is all politics and mockery of viewers..Parthiv Patel should be kicked out of not only international cricket but also from Ranaji..Thats his standard..somebody said he is talented..excuse me..can you explain what talent that kid has apart from dropping catches and missing stumping at the crunch time..O well! he can bat though !! well we dont give a damn to his batting ability as we are in despearte need of wicketkeeper...

Parthiv Patel
by A. Datta on Mar 03, 2004 11:58 PM

I don't quite make sense of the comment:

"There is no doubt that the teenager is talented and continuity is a key ingredient in building a successful team. But to continue with a player when there are other, better alternatives isn't particularly bright."

What is special to continue with a player when there is no other choice? To me, 'continue' to stick to one is only relevant when equally good ones are around. If 'continuity' is of any relevance, the selection of
Parthiv Patel in the squad highlights that. I would
expect more careful choice of phrases which are not
self contradictory.

Well done ...Mr.Faisal and Rediff
by Murali Kathirvel on Mar 03, 2004 11:40 PM

First of all..I would like to congratulate Mr.Faisal Sheriff for his wonderful analysis.Rediff.com also deserves a pat on its back for posting such a brilliant and mind-boggling analysis of the players.
Common Faisal....do u think all those people who are reading these kind of columns don't know anything abt cricket.Just don't try to fool everbody just b'cause you are in a position to write something in the media.Let's give credit to the guys who deserve it.See i'm in no way related to either Mr.Gavaskar or Mr.Badani.But i'm one of the well wishers for the Indian Cricket.Anybody who knows their cricket and worth their salt will disagree with your comparison between badani and gavaskar.
Imagine yourself not been allowed to write this column and a guy who is very much junior to you and not so talented as you(ha!ha!) has been asked to carry out the column, just b'cause he is the relative of your M.D.Can you accept the injustice?[In hindsight, that would have been a very good thing to happen ,coz we don't need to read these kind of rubbish columns].
If this is the kind of columns rediff.com is going to post in the future..this is my last entry into the site.

Lakshman S
Parthiv Patel
by Lakshman S on Mar 03, 2004 11:58 AM

With Parthiv, in the team, we are bound to lose all the matches, in which he plays. Because even if the bowlers do well, there has to be some one behind the stumps to effect the stumpings and the catches. He is a thorough misfit, and I am surprised to know that we do not have another keeper.

I disagree

You have stated that Badani has scored only one international half century, if not sure go and check the oneday series scores between India and Australia 2001 (VVS Comeback series)

He scored a 100 in one of the matches

Faisal's article

Faisal,

there are pros and cons to your arguments. I could rhetorically argue to all your apprehensions about Badani. I agree that Parthiv is a waste of time.
