about the indian bowlers
by R.Rajesh on Jul 28, 2004 03:09 AM

The Indian team have bowled first in the matches against the Sri lanka and the Pakistan. The bowlers gave away lot of runs at every part of the game.
Even five strike bowlers cannot contain the Pakistan team below 300.
The main bowlers were not very effective except Irfan Pathan. He is only bowler who bowled consistently in all the matches.
In this series Tendulkar bowled very well, even in the last stages of the game. Ganguly had confident in Sachin and gave many overs in this series. Sewhag also did preety well.
I hope the bowlers will come good in the coming matches and lift the Asia cup.

It is a wise decision taken by team management by giving a chance to recover from the injury for final. The reasons may be the following:

1. If any body was selected for final inplace of laxman, there will be a little scope to show performance directly in one match that too final. There will be a lot of difference in showing performance in league matches and final match in a tournment.

2. Instead of getting a specialist batsman for final, they will try for following:

a. Taking parthiv in final 11:

Benefits: Additional burdon on Dravid can
be removed.Beig a left handed opener and shortman , he can easily face 2 left arm fast bowlers (Vaas and Zyosa). He can be used as pinch hitter.so that, veerendra sehwag or Sachin services can be used in middle order batting as backbone.

b. using the Irfan Pathan or Balaji as pinch hitter in first 15 overs also helps India to make 300+. The said players are showing good performance in slag overs. If they play in same manner in 1st 15 Overs, the specialist batsman need not worry for loss of the main wicket on account of pinch hitting and the batting order depth will be improved.
