true that Malik been ignored as batsman
by Teja on Jul 27, 2004 07:01 PM

It is once again proved that Indians give away lot of runs to unfamiliar batsman like this Shoaib Malik. As srinath's opinion Malik is rightly took the advantage of unpreparedness of the Indians and taught a lesson.

Srinath's views

To be honest I do not find anything interesting or valuable in Javagal's columns. He never misses an opportunity to praise his Kannadiga colleagues thats all. This column is a waste of space.

J Srinath's views are simply correct and he knows better that when we are talking about a matter of sports or national interest no regional feelings should be reflected for which kannadigas are famous.Infact he should be more seriuos about his few former team mates.and having retired recently from the team he is the best choice.

Some questions
by Bharat on Jul 27, 2004 06:41 AM

1)Altho Malik's Innings was brilliant, it could hardly be termed as a surprise. When a pinch hitter is sent in, u have to get him early. The longer he stays, the more u are out of the game. So, the Indians should have used their best bowlers... Pathan,Kumble,Harbhajan and tried to get his wicket and more importantly not drop as many catches.

2)Some times the field setting was quite surprising. How come sehwag was fielding at mid-on? "Kumble at square point" and Balaji at mid-off?... I think that however bad the situation is, the captain should not loose track of the field setting. That happened in the last game.

3)As long as Balaji dropped it short, Pakistan wasn't able to score off him(the pitch was giving lot of bounce). It made more sense to do that. Instead 70% of his balls were over pitches.

4)Why was a pinch hitter not used? A surfeit of bowlers(5 in number) means that one of them is expendable. So, sbdy should've been sent in to slog.

5)Most important... Rahul Dravid's batting position needs to be fixed. Its all right if we are batting first for him to come at number 4. But when batting second, he should either open or come at 6/7 with Kaif coming at 4.

indian fielding
by ravindranadh chowdary on Jul 27, 2004 06:40 AM

srinath our fielders really dropped many oppurtunities (catches)that would have turned round the match .i donot understand where the problem is?is this the problem of fitness or attentivity.despite of some useless balls our bowlers bowled well only but due to this worse fielding they (bowlers )too got wexed.if this situation continues soon our position will be definetly no.1 from last.what is the remedy to this prevailing situation.

javahal's observations
by subramanian Padmanaban on Jul 27, 2004 03:22 AM

It is very simple javahalji. Balaji that day played for Pakistan and not to india, like some more players in our team spearheaded by captain who is standing with fingers crossed not knowing what to do. But onething, we were philanthrophic in gifting the game to them without any resistance. Truely speaking we played for one bonus point only and not for a win.
Out nightmarish experience still continues and Pakistan is haunting us. Now Srilanka will join Pak in developing a trauma to indian camp. Dont try to find reasons for defeat but accept this observation which is totally true.

sad..!
by deep on Jul 27, 2004 12:02 AM

hi readers!

to say that pakis got indians unprepared is not justified ! even after a wonderful world cup p[erformance followed by the unforgetable pakistan tour, never did we see any vainglorious attitude in the players.
and having lost to Sri lanka in more-o-less similar fashion we were prepared to take them head on..!
i do understand that success is 100%,it is absolute but dear friends, yes we lost the match, but is that all we will relate to..?
malik was flying high on his luck n that my is where we were a little unlucky..!luck was not favouring India other on wat other occassion have u observed Sehwag feild like tat..! how many times have u seen"DADA"'s field strategy going completely amiss..!
Ball was chasing sehwag,he just couldn't catch it..!
i am not trying to defend our defeat but dont u think the fashion in which DADA got out followed by poor yuvraj, kaif n dravid showed that luck was just not with us..!
yes malik played well n deserves appreciation but he caught us on the wrong day!

never mind hats off to DADA n sachin but yes there are no explanations for a match lost..!

best of luck XI !
