zaheer mustn't play
by pratheesh thomas on Jul 23, 2004 08:51 AM

zaheer must not play. he is not fully fit or near his best. he is the one who defeated india in the world cup final. let nehra play. i dont know why india not playing five bowlers. if seven batsmen can't bring victory, it is time to play five bowlers and restrict the oppositon to small totals.

Injury prone
by Muralidhar Rao on Jul 23, 2004 03:50 AM

I am a fan of both Zaheer and Nehra. But their bodies are too fragile for the international matches. I will not be surprised if both of them break down again during the Asia cup. Some players are just injury prone. South African fast bowlers Donald and Ngam had to end their careers because of recurring injuries. There are many more who had to stop bowling very early on like Geoff Allot, etc. Its not the fault of the bowlers. Its just that international matches are too demanding on the human body.

Zaheer should be rested!
by Ramesh Kapoor on Jul 22, 2004 06:59 PM

It seems that Zaheer is suffering from a chronic desease which has not yet been diagonised. He should be rested and let Ashish Nehra play as the third pace bowler. Alternatively, let India go with two spinners: Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh.

Now that he has passed his fitness test, and should he fail once again, would the team management rest him for good for the tour.
