rahul may become susceptible to fatigue.
by srikanth on Jul 18, 2004 06:05 PM

I strongly support Javagal srinath's perception about Rahul Dravid being abstained from keepin the wickets. And at the same time i ridicule the selection of parthiv patel into the team as a replacement for rahul.

Wicket-keeping is a strenuous job which requires you to keep moving in all the directions which can strain your back disastrously.first of all rahul dravid drains all his energy for his batting taking quick singles.moreover if he also takes up the wicket keeping his endurance will cross the limits and he might become susceptible to fatigue due to this over strain.since he is the backbone of the team winning crucial matches we cannot take a chance with his fitness.

coming to the point of balance in the team,do u think we shud focus on the enudrance of rahul or the composition of the team.i strongly feel we shud focus on the former.he is not a machine after all.

I also criticise the selection of parthiv patel as a wicket-keeper into the team.he is so unexperienced and has not even played handful of ranji matches.also,he has missed lullabee stumpings in the series against australia.when there are numerous ranji players, highly experienced, plsjustify selection of pathiv

Behind or before

Behind or Before! He is the only reliable keeper of wickets. Board cann't take chance. Not a bad decision in the interest of country.

Miss you, Srinath

Dear Javagal,

Miss you in the team, man. It would have been great to see you bowl with the jewels -- Irfan & Balaji -- considering how line and length is a more pronounced principle in the Indian team today, than it was 10 years ago.

Keep writing. For fans like me, you are still very much part of the Indian cricket team.

What's wrong with you Srinath?

What's the big deal? If he was not a wicket keeper, he would be standing a few feet away from whoever keeps the wicket and not wear a gloves, but perform almost similar duties... What's better? Your logic seems so absurd... You write as illogically as you have performed when someone slogs you when you bowl...

nothing wrong with great srinath. It is the poor decision of Sourav and BCCI. Srinath always played for the team, not like other players who played for their own deed. His opinion always do carry a weightage. Why Dravid should keep the wickets, he is our batting mainstay. Pillar of Indian Batting.

He is the person whom any team would love to have.

Thanks ! Srinath for your bold opinions. Keep giving your valuable opinions.

Is something is wrong, that is with BCCI (Dalmiya, Sourav & Company)

Unfair to Dravid
by raman on Jul 18, 2004 01:25 PM

I agree with Srinath. Doing both jobs will
take a toll on Dravid. It may cut short his career, which will not be good for the country. Hope better sense prevails in the minds of selectors.

Rahul Dravids W/keeping!
by anthony on Jul 18, 2004 12:53 PM

Dear Sri

With all due respects to you having played at the highest level...frankly speaking, your onfield attitude ( I mean body language) in quite a few matches, was to say the least - very negative.

By espousing that Dravid should not keep is like to break-up a solid team combination.

Does not Adam Gilchrist keep and open the batting?
What about Mark Boucher?
a few saesons ago Alec Stewart?

If someone is doing a good job and it helps the cause- why bring that negative feeling instead of encouraging the guy to fine tune his skill..

Batting is not a skill that an additonal job will reduce the efficiency..ofcurse, the guy will be more tired, for sure...but isn't similar to the others, noted above, who don the gloves and are also the premier batsmen in the team.

Come'n Sri - u sincerely need a break...please be positive and think of the team as a whole. India needs him in that dual role...and he needs to honor the faith imposed on him.

Thanks

I endorse Srinath's comments.. afterall, how long will Rahul do dual-roles? the Indian cricket board had better thank their stars that Rahul's got some prowess keeping wickets from his stint in domestic cricket. But isn't this issue a can that's waiting to spew forth worms in the coming years? Not one player since Nayan Mongia has qualifed as a wicket-keeper of some repute for India in recent times. Why are the selectors taking time drafting Parthiv Patel into the team? he's young and anyone with decent cricket sense knows he's got a mature head over his shoulders. just look at his test performances... he's both stayed and pushed the pedals on the scoring rates as and when required! i wonder wot omen it is that the selectors are waiting for!
