Injustice withAgarkar

Injustice is done alll with poor agarkar, I dont know why the selectors are taking away the kid " Parthiv" if the wickets are to be kept by " Dravid" , Parthiv is just going there for fun, and tour, There should be a place of agarkar in place of parthiv or nehra, Considering his record against Srilanka and in Sri lanka.... What happened to The Selectors ? ... ANS : GOD Knows......

Agarkar was our best bowler in Australia, without doubt! Infact he was the one who set up the epoch making victory against Australia in Australia at Adelaide along with Dravid! Even in the one dayers that followed in Australia he was performing well (even though he was 'RESTED' for a few matches in between). Lets talk about HIS last ODI- When the whole Indian batting collapsed, which included the superstars, he scored a flawless 53 while Badani top scored with a streaky 60! He even bowled well as usual in the ODIs. And in the only match that he played after that, the 2nd test at Pakistan (which we lost because of the batsmen, not because of our bowlers!) he scored 33 (after being sent below Pathan!!!), when our other batsmen failed. Well, agreed that he bowled well below par & got just 1 Wkt BUT he was coming back after a long lay off and it certainly wasn't good conditions for bowling! Moreover, he was denied the use of the new ball (As soon as he got the 2nd new ball he immediately got the only wicket that he took in that match!) But hey, even the successful bowler in that tour, Viz. Balaji (even after having played all the 5 ODIs) took just 1 Wkt in the 1st test match! - Contd -

Agarkar VS Nehra
by K.M.cheriyan on Jul 09, 2004 10:20 PM

Sir,
It really looks like a hazy picture, the prudency behind the selection of Nehra to Agarkar is really impertinent in the context that the Indian team is really playing as a cohesive unit offlate and they are enjoying the privilege of the training of great coach and a god gifted captain. The team is a in perfect harmony and there is not internal squabbles as it had happened during Gavaskar VS kapil times nor is it like during Azaharuddin days when captian was unavailble to others or always in a lukewarm mood.A captian with the right attitude like Ganguly was essential for india to give a push to its winning ambitions and habbits. Now the most important issue is the the team and not Individuals so Nehra or Agarkar are not important but how the team plays. As the coach and captain both are capable of getting the best out of players it does not matter whether Agarkar plays or Nehra plays but the team plays. It really is alluring to see the way Gangualy leads the team of youngster with never dying spirt and enthusiasm which never happened in Indian cricket history.

Injustice to Agarkar

Ganguly's preference for Nehra & Zaheer is only TOO OBVIOUS! Ideally, the tossup must have been between Nehra and Zaheer!!! Ganguly's selfishness in letting his heart take over his mind is one of the main reason for Agarkar not being picked. I aint sure how many of you will agree, but I will bet my bottom dollar that he can stake a claim in the Indian team purely on his batting merit alone! There are a few people who talk about him getting the chances but hey let me tell them all - IF ONLY HE HAD GOT AS MANY CHANCES (with the bat) AS KAIF HAS, HE WOULD HAVE SCORED NOTHING LESS THAN DOUBLE OF WHAT KAIF HAS TILL DATE! I can go on & on & on.. But the bottomline is that Agarkar is in the wrong team.. If only he had been in countries that encourage talent, like Pakistan or SA, he would have been the world's best All rounder by now!

the toss up must have been between Zaheer and Nehra. Zaheer WAS good but off late has been more of a liability. And Nehra?!! The lesser said the better. No good with the bat and in the field though he can 'BOWL A BIT' There is NO Comparison between the mediocrity of Nehra & the sheer Genius of Agarkar! Nehra is just 1 lucky ******! Happens to be at the right place at the right time! The reason why we lost the World Cup 2003 was because we didnt include Agarkar in the playing 11 (while Dinesh Mongia got to play in all eleven with a top score of only 37 that too against Zimbabwe!!).Our team without garkar was good enough to beat all the ordinary teams but to beat Australia we need our Best 11, which obivously includes Agarkar! We failed to use his immense potential in both the matches against Australia and paid a very Dear price by losing the WC'03! But still we havent learnt the lesson!! Agarkar is too good a match winner (especially in ODIs!) to even be kept in the reserves , leave alone dropping him!! The selectors and team management have made a great blunder by dropping him at the expense of the "Good for Nothing" Nehra.
