Sachin
Laxman plays for himself
by Sachin on Jan 25, 2004 11:56 PM

in the recent ODI against AUS yuvraj made 139 but laxman never accelerated the scoring rate in slog overs when it mattered most and was happy toget his hundred rather make indian total 300+.
his strike rate was in 80's and 90's till 40th over and then it slipped under 80 when India needed to make most out of having wickets in hand of rohan and badani. it cost india match as brett lee hit six in final over. hats off to laxman ! he knew that even 300 would not be enough for aus and india needed to score as many runs as they could. Look at GIlchrist he made 96 in 75 still ensuring win for Aus.

GANGULY & RAHUL DRAVID ???
by Er SinGh SD on Jan 25, 2004 10:08 PM

Yeah it is right that Ganguly adopted those methodes intentionally but why cry is when India & Pak do this ?It is very strange that all other nations escape such punishment this way ofr that way .Especially since Ganguly is leading successfully he is seen as a culprit by all cricket playing countries but I support him to keep it up and do anything which can help Indian team.
As for as Dravid is concerend he has been punished rightly. He may be a great Crickter but it is very much clear from the movie clips that he was doing it intentionally.Though there is no measure by which we can measure intention or unintention but it was a grave mistake as it has been widely published and that way he brought India a bad name.

one side of the story
by bharat on Jan 25, 2004 07:56 PM

1)You are forgetting that Ricky pointing probably escaped the fine by just 2 balls.
2)You are also forgetting that Steven Waugh was not punished although he overshot the time by 45 minutes
3)Teams makeup for the loss of time in the middle overs. FYI, there were no/negligible middle overs in the game because India lost 16 overs because of rain. The game was infact a perpetual slog. So the punishment handed to Ganguly was unduly harsh and not punishing Ricky pointing was in complete contravention to the spirit of cricket.

Allan Border preaches Ganguly
by Seenu Kempkuttige on Jan 25, 2004 07:44 PM

Unbelievable. This man can actually give a stand down preaching to Indians in an Indian publication. Allan Border doesn't bother to ask why Ponting was spared for being slow but Ganguly needs to "address" the issue. The real issue that needs to be addressed is the melanin pigmentation that is in excess in several regions of the world, and the special treatment many many so-called humans get for lack thereof.

Mr. Border

Dear Mr. Border,
Nice to read your views, but one thing that stood out were your comments about Gangulys slow go tactics. Let me recall you that it was a rain affected match and in a pressure situation like this I would expect any captain to give proper thought to field placing than giving attention to time. It is stupid to even think of time especially when in the first innings the opposing captain has wasted 45 mins which amounts to approx 8 or 9 overs. Why was there no comment about that. You being a great captain yourself I would expect you to be a bit more fair in your comments. Please if you have been given a chance to write in our columns that because we expect you to be fair and acknowledge your expertise in the game. Do not try to play mind games here.
We are not complaining of loosing money we are only complaining of losing the match here and expect you to comment only on that.Anything extra Please try to weigh it in the correct sense and not be biased. Hope your future columns are more fair than biased.
Regards,
