Its Dravid today, will it be Laxman tomorrow and Yuvraj next?
by pg vijairaghavan on Jan 29, 2004 12:03 PM

The speed with which "justice" is meted out to Indian players for perceived offences, when the real culprits who bring cricket into disrepute like Glen Mcgrath, Ricki Ponting or Shane Warne and many more are given the royal miss, makes one believe that the mighty are now jittery about their status in the game and are showing it! Clive Lloyd should know better than to punish Dravid for an offence he himself believes was committed in ignorance, merely because the evidence was there. It is like sentencing the driver of a car to death for a traffic offence resulting in a casualty! Even criminal law considers motive as more important than the mere effect of an act, but not our hoity toity Clive Lloyd. Half the teams in the cricketing world, (and Lloyd himself would have retired with less than half the numberof games he has played), should have forfeited their right to play and be paid, if Lloyd's reasoning were to be applied seriously. Obviously, these rules do not apply universally.
Going by experience Sachin and Dravid have paid the price for their honesty at the altar of the nouveau honest cricketing judges, who will be next in line - will it be Laxman, Yuvraj and Chopra

dravid, let him stay hero forever.
by dr.raj on Jan 27, 2004 05:51 PM

it is very sad monent for all the fans of dravid, as this cricket gaint has never even made any offensive comment on/off field, who took the worst abuses from donald when he slammed 3 sixes to him in a final, with out a back fire. i think this is a worst decision for a gentle man.i want to see the racism end soon.

It was clear that dravid was not tampering the ball.
by Srikanth on Jan 26, 2004 02:27 PM

From the video clips , we could see that dravid did an innocent mistake by trying to chip off the saliva which he applied. But the midea is doing it a big issue. We feel sorry for what has happened..

The whole nation is with you, Dravid
by Manish on Jan 25, 2004 12:14 PM

Cricket is honored by the presence of a player of character such as Rahul Dravid. Rahul, the whole nation is with you in this hour of crisis. We not only enjoy every bit of your game but also respect and admire you as a person. You are a role model not only people in India but also for many people around the world.
Hats off to Rahul!!!

Srinath's comments
by venkiyer1 on Jan 25, 2004 07:56 AM

I full support Kannan's comments on Sri's article. I too expected a person of Srinath's calibre to discuss both good and bad. It is true the TV clippage was definitely showing Dravid 'massaging' over the gum sticking on the ball. After all Clive Lloyd is an internationally reputed cricketer and he could recognise the 'acts' even when I could in the first instance. Also Srinath stayed away from the shameful acts of delay tactics Ganguly and Yuvraj were doing on the field to avoid completion of the 25 overs. When he talks the laurels of the Indian mates, does he think this is also part of the skills they acquired in the process for him to ignore them totally. Does he think such hefty fines imposed on Ganguly and his mates bring excellent reputation to the Indian team. When he defends the acts of Dravid is it not right on his part to condemn these delay tactics which also will hang over their head for ever in shame.

Quality of Columns..
by Ramki on Jan 25, 2004 04:42 AM

Use of Unnecesary and comlicated words.. Being Verbose does not compensate for the qualiy of an article. I dont see Srinath' articles having any real quality to merit a place on Rediff. Sri, You had been the work horse of our team.. And we all gave you your due. But Sorry, Rediff has to let you go.
We will be satisfied with what Prem writes!

Ball tampering or racism ?
by Sree on Jan 24, 2004 08:17 PM

It's high time that BCCI supports it's cricketers by thinking seriously about these kind of allegations. Rahul is known for his Gentleman nature more than for his batting abilities and we hope Clive Lloyd is aware of that fact. How funny it is that these so called Match Referees have been considering dirty behavior of Australians on field as "part of the game" but made hell of an issue about a genuine attempt by Rahul to rather clean the ball rather than tamper it ! Not to forget about the way Steve Bucknor behaves on the field bring much discredit to his role.

Dravid despondend
by Rajendra Vidwans on Jan 24, 2004 03:08 PM

willfully or ignorantly, Dravid has done a mistake and footage definitely shows more than removal of jelly! Let's forget the incident, forgive The Wall gracefully and carry on. It is Srinath'a job to defend his Bangalore buddy and our job to see through both Dravid and Srinath!
