Asking Laxman to change his game around to look like Adam Gilchrist is not possible. Also, there is a need to drop anchor and build after an initial onslaught which probably ends by over 15. If an early wicket is lost, it might be good to send Yuvraj or Ganguly, while moving Laxman to No. 4. But there has to be someone who will be settled and helping the non-striker settle down. Laxman fits that role and Dravid too can play it. Bevan, Martyn and others also offer bedrock support which allows Gilchrist, Ponting, Hayden and Symonds to play shots. What India needs is a Robin Singh clone, who can also bowl 10 accurate middle overs, can bat as needed and saves runs at No.7. Rohan Gavaskar, Badani, Bangar, Mongia are all trying to fill that slot. Wholesale reinventions might disturb his test cricket also.
hi laxman My favorate cricket player u, I am also from Hyderabad. I hope u will get 300 Runs in one innigs in test match against atleast three good teams I pray to god hope u to do. Thanks and congratulations for your marriage and I am thankful that she is also belongs to guntur. bye
If one were to read the title of your article without having followed the Gabba match, one would think Laxman did something terribly wrong, got duck out many times in a row or some such! Laxman never finds fielders like the Dravid of yore. He rotates strike well. Instead of asking him to re-invent himself, he should be promoted forever to No.3. Let him play his natural game. As for his fielding, he is a safe fielder and one has to agree. He doesn't sweep, because he doesn't have to. What lesser mortals would have played as a sweep, he comes down and hits it inside out.
Having said this, he will do only better if he improvises and does all that.

PS: Did it ever strike you thatIndia started playing better after you stopped writing regularly? It is a different matter of course that it coincided with John Wright's coming as coach.

Well said Ramesh, I have often pondered how this normal masala stuff is written on a website of rediffs reputation. Cant forget 'Australia's Secret Weapon' on this site which was the most ridiculous cricket article ever written anywhere. Ever wondered how on earth does such article by such sub standard authors get through the editors pen and make it to the pages....... wake up rediff. Hire somebody good to comment on great matches. Else take the sidhu line of being humourous and be funny. This guys articles sucks !!!
You sound anthropomorphic, your mythological extrapolations sound nauseating! Please write down to earth stuff, so we earthly souls can grasp what is otherwise a archetypically momentous effort to analyse Sachin's loss of kingly status! There are more post-modern ways to apply symbolism, so can we expect more critical wisdom from you?
In laxman everyone see Azhar .I guess ,Like Azhar ,laxman will be able to change himself in good ODi batsman .I could recall initial batting style of Azhar which was more near to test but in the late 1994 , He has changeed himself as a quicker scorer (Even azhar came up with one of the fastest centuary in oneday game )morover you can see same in Dravid he has changed lot himself from a test to a quick odi scorer .So,wait & see Laxman will certainly came up ,he is a class act & will come with a solution in near future .
