It has been mentioned that there are four instances when India had a century opening stand while chasing and still lost the match. Actually, there is one more. It was against South Africa in the Titan cup in 1996/97 in Jaipur. The openers were Tendulkar and Ganguly again. I think that is the first match Tendulkar got Ganguly to open with him.
