India need a match winning bowler
by Sudeep Saha on Jan 09, 2004 01:05 PM

I definitely believe that India will be a force to reckon with in the future. But to consistently win against top teams, India needs a bowler in the mould of Shoaib or Lee. Then the other guys can raally around him to dismiss batsmen. Until that time India has to rely heavily on its batsmen to save them out of trouble.
The performance of the bowlers down under left a lot to be desired. It is due to this lack of quality bowlers that the failed to win the final test. It is imperative that they find and groom a genuine pace bowler to be a true global super-power.

Warne a joke against India.
by spc on Jan 08, 2004 11:40 AM

Please don't consider Warne a threat to Indian batsmen. His bowling average in Test matches against India both at Home and Away is 50 plus and will flatter a top class batsman.

India emerge as new world power

I have read a lot about Aus bowling attack being weak for this series but where exactly?
Glenn McGrath - he never bowls on wicket but only outside the off-stump. All our Indian batsmen we good enough in this series in handling all the balls outside the off-stump. If not McGrath, what was Gillespe and Brett Lee were doing???
Shane Warne - What has been this players effect against India??? If anyone asks me about this series without Warne, I will tell u absence of Shane made the difference between India winning this series to India drawing. If he had played, we would have scored somemore runs faster as he was very well known friend for our batsman.
We should also remember that even India didn't have our strike bowlers Z Khan , J Srinath (retiring after world cup) and Harbajan Singh(though Singh hasn't been doing what he did in the historical series against Aus).
Too much has been made about the absence of McGrath and Warne. It's time we credit our team with what they deserve. Aus still lost the series at India having thier best bowlers McGrath and Warne.
One final qn. WAS THERE ANY BALL/WEAPON THAT McGrath has WHICH IS NOT WITH Lee/Gillispe?
Good Luck to the so called writers.

India as a new power
by Venkat Srinivas on Jan 07, 2004 03:39 AM

While I agree with the argument of the writer of the article, I strongly believe that Indian cricket team needs to learn one attitude to emerge as a true power. Ruthlessness. Even if you are facing a small team, do not lower your game. If you make 700 against Australia, you shold make probably 1200 against teams like Bangladesh. That way smaller teams learn their lessons hard and India will truely remain as champions. The last test showed that Indian team severely lacks that. The chance of winning the serious was not utilized properly. Though non availability of best bowlers is hitting, if you are a power, you should utilize your available resources to the best of their abilities. I think it was not done in the fourth test. The loss in the third test is another clear example of lack of killer instincts. WE cannot accept the story of sledging as a reason. So, Indians are truely champions and they can remain ones if they learn the attitude of winners.
