Lakshman inspire others
by Bhanu on Jan 08, 2004 08:43 PM

I feel laxman should be given all the credit for rejuvenating Indian batting. his huge knock at calcutta started the indian batting juggernaut. From that day dravid has been very consistent and now even tendulkar has been brought back to form by his knocks. If Laxman can keep his cool and confidence , he may become one of the best batsmen of all times.

Well done Laxman, we are proud of you.

Waugh's Farewell gone Wrong
by Ravi Koulagi on Jan 04, 2004 02:06 PM

Hi,
I think Cricket Australia ( or Steve Waugh) made a tactical blunder in announcing his retirement before this series. By doing that, it increased the expectation of a fairy tale farewell for Steve and increased the pressure on the Aussie team. The crowd expections were also high. The fact that this Indian team is really playing well and is mentally strong did not help the cause either.

Really great work

Laxman is second to none when playing against Ausies in their own bouncy pitches. Its really remarkable and as this reporter rightly said, its a very very special moment for Indian Test cricket. I hope all this great contrubutions by Hyderabadi batsman worth countless laurels and applauds would atleast be considered by the selectors from now on. Pl remember his mighty knocks which helped in making big partnerships and ultimate wins against the cricketing gaints. I Wish Laxman all the very best in his future endeavours.

Fatual error!
by Feroze Mohammad on Jan 04, 2004 12:07 AM

Nice article Prem! But an Error! You had mentioned that Gavin Robertson got his First Look at Laxman during a tour Match in that series against Australia. If my memory serves me right, Gavin was part of the team that toured India in 1998-99 season (Which India won 2-1). In the second test at Calcutta, Laxman scored 95 i think. And Gavin was the backup spinner for Shane Warne. I am sure he played the test in Chennai but i am not sure he played the Calcutta test. But he was in the squad. (India in fact scored some 699 runs or so).

Please correct me if i am wrong!

Cheers!
Feroze

Congrats Sachin

Congrats Tendulkar, We all knew that you will come back strongly and it was just matter of time before we see another gem from you.

Now let me tell a few words to all the critics of Sachin TendulkarYou all pls dont show your Great cricket knowledge any more. Man with 9000 test runs under his belt deserves much more respect than what he is getting from you people.

But whom I am telling all these!!! I must aware of the fact that our country has got plenty of Bishen Bedis who does not learn from their mistakes.

India on Song
by Parimal on Jan 03, 2004 09:24 AM

The best thought that comes to my mind about VVS & Sachin is that ...

"Form is temporary But Class is permanent" ....

They have been gifted with the latter in abundance ...

God Help Aussies ...

Cheer Up India ..... we have given Aussies taste of their own medicine ....

In the past 5 years they have wrapped a test match in Australia in under 4 days .... but this time it is different .... India is on a song mate....

well said!!!!
by srinivas tanniru on Jan 03, 2004 09:21 AM

hi,

i liked the way u wrote about laxman, or more precisely, we can name ur column as "the making of new laxman", who without any doubt has proven that he is no less than a Tendulkar or a Dravid on his day, and luckily for India, his day comes on more often than no, which is making him more consistent. its his self-confidence thats showering these good words on him. i wish him the same success througgh out the year 2004.

Hats off to Laxman !!!
Very good, encouraging article !!!
Though we have Sachin back in form, we got two stylish batsmen with consistency in this series, Dravid and Laxman...
