Akash Chopra has the potential to be a very useful opening batsman for India !
by Dr. Cajetan Coelho on Jan 04, 2004 12:58 PM

Young Akash has done well for Team India and for his own confidence Down Under. An assignment in Australia against the mighty Aussies is a challenging task and the young Indian opener has come out with his reputation intact and enhanced. He has tried to play the given role to the satisfaction of many. The good starts in the company of Sehwag provided healthy platforms for our Indian tigers to chase the kangaroos all over the continent of Australia. We congratulate Akash for facing the fury of Brett, Bracken, Brad and Jason courageously. May your experience help you to amass higher scores for Team India in future.

Need more hunger for wins
by Aashish Gupta on Jan 03, 2004 01:48 AM

How can Chopra feel satisfied with his effort? His statement reeks of the attitude that "I've done enough to secure my place in the side, the result of the match can go to hell". Whenever a batsman gets out, no matter what his score, he should feel disappointed because it could have been more. Take Ponting's example, even after scoring 242 in Adelaide he said he was disappointed because the teams target was higher.

What if the rest of the team had collapsed for 20 runs after Chopra got out for 45? Would he still say he was satisfied that he made 45 and got out without ensuring that the team would win? For a batsman, any innings that doesn't end by scoring the winning runs or remaining not out, should be a disappointment. Try playing with this attitude Chopra and you'll be a great cricketer.

it is better to be consistent
by Srinivas on Jan 02, 2004 08:34 PM

It is probably better for India if he scores consistently at the top even if it is 40's or 50's rather than have a big hundred once and get out for single digit scores quite often like the previous openers did.

its very good to see the opening partnership going in three figures. For someone like chopra its very good performance as he is playing against the world's best side. so we can expect a lot from him in nearby future.
