This is ridiculous (continued from the previous post)

ICC cannot cane players like school students. Even if the overall over rate has been considered and found to be slow, I would term this to be harsh. After all, it was a day and night match and there won't be any problem with light failure also. 83 runs in 10 overs would make any captain clueless and imagine the plight of an 18 year old. I am sure it was not a deliberate time wasting tactic. It is not a test match where you can get away with a draw by wasting time. This is an day/night one day match and the overs have to be bowled completely anyway. So ICC's terming this as deliberate time wating is stupidity at worst and high-handedness at the ridiculous most. This mindless consideration of just opening overs instead of the whole innings make me really irritated towards those officials. This ban might play a crucial in the semifinal tie against Pakistan. My heart-felt sorry for the nice young chap Rayudu. Hope he gets a chance to shine in the finals. Hope this matter is properly sued by BCCI.

This is ridiculous

There is a limit to playing God by the ICC officials. Don't they realize how important the next game is? Is India playing some normal one day series with just another country. Decisions related to events regarding crucial junctures like this should be made a bit. Important point to be noted is that they say Rayudu wasted time in the opening overs.. "Opening overs"??? Does it make sense? Because, Srilanka were all out in 46 overs itself which would mean that India would have completed the bowling innings in correct time. When batsman go after bowlers, it is natural for the captain to take time in field adjustments and talking to bowlers to make sure if everything is ok. Punishing for slow over-rate in "opening overs" is ridiculous. Over-rate should be considered for the overall innings. Just because he did not pay heed to umpires' warning in the opening overs is nothing but absurd. They should have looked the whole innings. This is high handedness of ICC referee and umpires and I guess they were just irked that the Indian captain personally did not pay heed to them. This is too rough on a young fellow who has a clean record as a player for the past two years.(to be contd.)

unfair decision
by g.singh on Feb 28, 2004 08:41 PM

the banning of indian u-19 captain a. rayudu only highlights the gross discrimination against players from the subcontinent.only a few days back australian players adam gilchrist and symonds were let off even thoug they had openly protested the umpires decision.one wonders why their 'acts' dont ever bring disrepute to the game.

why all action against india is so fast
by imran on Feb 28, 2004 06:54 PM

we seen in past also action against india is taken so fastly compare to any other cricketing nation it is under 19 or international , either test or ODI .

If they are taking action so fast against all cricketing country then it's ok but not why against india only ?

Its very very unfair on part of the ICC to ban Rayudu for one match. This suspension is too harsh considering the fact that players from other countries often get away with "warnings, strict warnings and fine(which however does not arise in this case)" while players from the sub-continent are more prone to serve much severe penalities like match suspensions. Its high time we stop accepting such things.

Indians are hot?
by Kumar on Feb 28, 2004 04:01 PM

It is very interesting to see why "umpires" fall after Indians only. I watched that match.initial overs were crucial for any team and they have to plan well. The same was done by Indians and later they could complete the remaining overs in time. In fact, the commentators also said "umpires" are "over doing". Is there no control over the umpires? AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, PUNISHMENT FOR SLOW DOWN OVERS SHOULD BE A 'BAN FROM A MATCH'!!!! Alas! God only can save this type of umpires.
