Indian cricketers attitude
by Sunil Anand on Dec 30, 2004 08:49 PM

Hi,
After the disaster hit Southern India, our cricketers have been conspicuous in their silence on the matter. They are arguably the highest paid entertainers (I am not including Bollywood types here) in India and I am sure they had many fans in the regions of Tamil Nadu affected by the Tsunami. What kind of image are they projecting about themselves, they would do themselves a lot of service in terms of PR if they would band together and contribute money from their pockets AND urge other rich Indians to contribute.
I am an ordinary Indian working in the US and have contributed a sizeable amount to the relief efforts, I am sure they can too with their vast riches.
Maybe you guys should do a column about it too, and where is your sense of outrage at the event. I would have expected a huge message of condolence on the webpage (possbily the entire site being made-up in black to pay homage to the victims). I see all of that in media outlets here in the US with so many editorials talking about it and urging ordinary Americans to contribute.

Anyway, maybe this is all just wishful thinking on my part. Thanks for the opportunity to write to you guys.
