well done saurav!!!!
by srinivas tanniru on Dec 03, 2004 10:37 AM

Kumble and Laxman, two players who could certainly be a very good captians are dropped out of oneday squad. Great thinking by ganguly. He realizes the importance of retaining the captiancy and only way to do so is by making his competitors feel the heat. Laxman can certainly be a very good captian, sooner or later he will be so. Kumble, may be its loo late to consider him. But certainly these two players are real threat to ganguly and hence they are out of team. Thanks to Dravid's improvization in oneday game, if not he could have been thrown out too. But dada, remember that Sehwag is maturing and maturing fast. what are you going to do to him?? You are a very good thinker sourav, but try to use that in the game rather than trying to use it outside. And finally, where is Agarkar??? we all know the answer...dont we????

Laxman axed for ODIs
by Sunil Sharma on Dec 03, 2004 10:28 AM

I can't understand why Dinesh Mongia is in the team and an experienced batsman like Laxman left out.
Dhoni has shown talent at lower level and good luck for him. We definitely need a good WK

Playing XI for B'Desh Series
by Rajesh on Dec 03, 2004 10:02 AM

Ganguly should think about promoting VVS Laxman to No 3 slot in Test Matches. R Dravid is ofcourse a good batsman in the world but he can't maintain the run rate which V Sehwag and G Gambhir made at the top. The Ideal position for Dravid is at NO 5.

And in ODI it is a better opportunity for Ganguly to experiment a regular wicket keeper instead of Dravid. It will defenitly brings down the pressure of R Dravid.

The Ideal Team for the B'desh tour in my view as follows:

Test

1 V Sehwag
2 G Gambhir
3 VVS Laxman
4 S Tendulkar
5 R Dravid
6 S Ganguly
7 D Karthik
8 I Pathan
9 H Singh
10 Z Khan
11 A Kumble

ODI

1 V Sehwag
2 S Tendulkar
3 S Ganguly
4 M Kaif
5 R Dravid
6 Y Singh
7 MS Dhoni
8 I Pathan
9 A Agarkar / Joginder Sharma
10 H Singh
11 Z Khan

Agarkar as a batsman
by Balaji on Dec 03, 2004 08:45 AM

India must think of playing Ajit Agarkar as a batsman...He is definitely a capable batsman..he has a test century...fastest Indian to score a fifty !this gives India plenty of opportunities...they can play the third spinner if they want !! Atleast on home conditions and DEFINITELY in ODIs ! He must be considered as a 5th bowler like Andre Hall or Razzaq and not main bowler. Look at how Pakistan have balanced their side by playing Shoaib Malik as a batsman. With Sachin & Sehwag opening, followed by Ganguly, Dravid, Yuvraj, Agarkar, u can have a genuine keeper ( Karthik or Dhoni ), plues 4 bowlers !! ( u can play
Kumble and Bhajji) !! We lost the Jubliee celebrations ODI with Pak at Calcutta, because our 5th bowler was hammered for a lot runs unlike theirs ! India needs to keep Laxman only for Test matches...however talented he may be he is not fit on the field for ODI...Instead Kaif should be there in the 12 !

Laxman dropped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by dev on Dec 03, 2004 07:15 AM

ARe you kidding, the guy has better average, better strike rate and more centuries than most of the indian players this year. He even have more catches than the so called fielders this year. How could you drop him? I even think he has scored more centuries just in onedayers this year along than the whole selection committee members ( they should go back and check the statistics of Laxman this year and compare their whole carrer statictics)? How could you drop him from onedayer when kaif and Y. Singh are in the onedayers? Shame on you guys.

Dev

Time for 5+5+1 combination
by Rizwan on Dec 03, 2004 04:27 AM

A good move!!
Will India again go with 7 batsman and only four regular
bowler, i think this is right time to go for 5+5+1 combination.
Team mnagement should give serious thought on this
issue.

not fair to exaggerate
by Anand on Dec 03, 2004 12:24 AM

its not fair to exaggerate things and say that good players like laxman and kumble were dropped for a bangladesh series, that too only for the ODI's. the fact is that laxman is being rested to give dinesh mongia another chance, which means pressure on kaif indirectly. kumble has actually opted out from the ODIs himself. he has played enough for the country and its only good for our team that he concentrates more on test matches and win them for us. rediff.com should learn to respect these hardworking gentlemen and not disgrace them like this. thanks.
