Mr. Kumble whole India is very much proud about your achievement. Mother India feels pride to have son like you. I pray for u to god to give u and bless u with the strength and ability serve the nation and achieve the bearth in 500 wickets club. I wish u all the best.
Kumble's 434 wickets in 90 Test matches when compared to Kapils' same no. of wickets in 131 Test matches clearly shows whi is a better Bowler & the Strike rate per Test Match.
Anybody can break anybody's record but the important thing to be measured is the strike rate to be taken into account i.e per test match. If t'morrow a Bowler plays say for 300 test matches as we can c the no. of matches being played nowadays he is sure to take 800 wickests. Hence world record should be also considered based on the Strike rate.
Congrats once again Kumble for the wonderful service rendered to India.

Truly phenominal record.. but please remember that Kumble has bowled 1000+ plus deliveries than the great allrounder...
Hearty Congratulations to Anil Kumble! Kapil struggled to get that figure. He was repeatedly given chances to play even though his performance was 'unsat' in the last phase of his glorious career. Kumble achieved it while constantly struggling to find a place in the Squad! What a pity!

One can say that Kumble has taken 434 wickets in lesser number of tests than Kapil Dev and JUMP TO THE CONCLUSION THAT HE IS A GREAT BOWLER. However, one has to realise that Kumble operated in ideal conditions. Kumble is a mere bowler who can neither be called a spinner or medium pacer. Whereas, Kapil Dev was a genuine SUPER ALL ROUNDER and cricketing world has produced just a handful of them. Kapil Dev was an effective bowler, a batsman capable of totalling changing the complexion of the game and a fielder par excellence. Sadly, Kumble has none of these attributes. Kapil Dev played in an era when he had to single handedly do the bowling without any effective bowling support. Kapil Dev's performance was par excellence in India as well as abroad, which is not the case with Kumble. However, for many, Kumble having taken 434 wickets in lesser number of tests than Kapil Dev comes a hero.
I have seen many matches where kumble bowls but the difference is on a placid pitch he is not that much effective, if you see warne on any pitch he can turn the ball quite sharply. Warne has the capacity to take wickets on any day of the test match and not on last three days. Eventhough kumble is known as leg spinner, his main stock ball is top spinner which comes rapidly to batsmen. According to me in recent times he has not broken through big partnership early you might have seen M.Clarke & Martin and others can tackle him with ease.So he might have taken wickets he is not within the ratings of Warne & Murli at any point of time.

Very good opinions expressed by Mr. Gole and I agree with him. Many enthusiasts of the game have just given their vent to their feelings without going into the merits of the issue. Kumble can no way be considered to be a great bowler. He has crossed 400 wickets because he played at a time when he did not have any competitors and he operated in ideal conditions. All he did was soldiered on and amassed wickets as they came by and got his 400 wickets. Kumble is not a match winning bowler (forget the 10 wickets he has taken in an inning) and he is neither a spinner nor a medium pacer. Match winning bowlers are Shane Warne (and Kapil Dev was one). Prasanna, Bedi, Venkat, Chandrasekhar, Raman and Goel were great bowlers, who used to prodigiously spin the ball. However, the first four offered intense competition to each other and therefore none could grab many wickets in an era when fewer test matches were played. Kapil was a great all rounder and, in comparison, Kumble is just a bowler without any spin worth calling and has remained an extremely sloppy fielder and disgraceful batsman after having played many tests and ODIs over ten years.
