Sourav Ganguly's fine
by Swarnava Chaudhuri on Dec 03, 2004 01:41 AM

Match referees appointed by the ICC for supervision of international cricket matches have become a nuisance .It is also evident that the match referees are trying to harass players from the Indian subcontinent on the slightest pretext. The Indian skipper, Sourav Ganguly appears to be their favorite target. In the last four years Sourav has been punished for a number of times on ridiculous logics. For most of the time he has been convicted for showing dissent against umpires.Interestingly, in the last four years Sourav had to leave the crease due to wrong decisions by umpires more than any other batsman in the world. However, those umpires who make incorrect decisions are never punished. But the batsman who has been the victim of wrong decisions is punished if he fails to hide his disappointment. So, where is the justice ? Cricket lovers want to see the cricketers, not the match referees.Cricketers bring glory to this game, not the match referees. The match referees are bringing much more disrepute to the game by needlessly showing their power. The ICC should explain why only people from the subcontinent are punished, while nothing happens to the Austalians for much greater offences.

This is a sheer stupidity by MR.Crow

India captain Sourav Ganguly was summoned by ICC Match Referee Jeff Crowe after the umpires reported him for showing dissent on the fourth day of the second cricket Test against South Africa in Kolkata on Wednesday.
Actually in the above circumstances for not using the technology umpire should be fined not the player for showing some emotion.
Normally it is human tenancy and right to express feeling when ever miss happening prevails in a situation.
I strongly believe that umpire is not a god. They are also human beings. Then why the Icc board is keeping quite when some thing went wrong with umpire.
They should cut their(umpire) match fee. Then only they will also be aware of what they are doing.
I think cricket is human game, then there will be some emotion, if they are not allowing us show our emotion then they are curbing our basic fundamental rights.
Gangully didnt even have any conversation with the umpire.
But still, he was penalized by imposing 30% match fee as a fine.
Rev umpire should be penalized for his wrong doing(not using the technology).

Who will put fine for Daryl Harper
by Naveen on Dec 02, 2004 09:09 AM

Hi everybody
If Ganguly has been fined for 30 per cent of his match fee for breach of the ICC Code of Conduct on the fourth day of the second Test against South Africa in Kolkata on Wednesday, then what should be done for the umpires who will give wrong decisions.

These ICC referees are partial in their decisions, as it was seen in the past controversies.
Such kind of wrong decisions will definitly frustrates the players.

Fine should also be imposed on those umpires who give wrong decisions.

why it is always ''Dhadha''
by Sridhar on Dec 01, 2004 11:05 PM

It is unfair to the Indian Captain, ICC is always been cruel to the Indian Captain. It is a clear sign of catch, which known to all and even to the batsmen, but the umpire didnt. As soon as the wrong decision has been made the third umpire should interfere and provide the correct decision to make the healthy use of the technology into cricket.

Ganguly's potential fine for dissent
by Narayan on Dec 01, 2004 10:41 PM

When will players get the right to report umpires for inept work? If the ICC has its way, probably never. Not only are players subject umpires imbecility, but they don't even have to right to vent their frustration. Now there's a fair system for you.

Shouldn't someone be looking into slapping a fine on umpires based on the number of mistakes they make per match (which can easily be verified with replays)? I think it's high time somebody did this.

What abt umpires?
by ANURADHA on Dec 01, 2004 09:11 PM

When Batsen make mistakes, they get out. When bowlers make mistake they go for runs. If players do not do something according to "code of conduct" they are fined. what about umpires? what happens to them whwn they make mistakes?????

Partisan Umpiring
by Mayuresh Dhairyawan on Dec 01, 2004 09:07 PM

Sourav Ganguli, as per ICC Code of conduct may have been guilty but is there any rules if Umpires resort to partisan attitude towards Teams from Sub-Continent in general and Indian Team in Particular.

Couple of decisions clearly went against India in this match itself, Ganguli's LBW and Kallis bat-pad.
