Wrong approach (batting order)
by Vivek Prasad on Aug 06, 2004 02:53 PM

When India was batting, I think whole approach was wrong. They must have gone for quick runs in first 15 overs when quickies were bowling. After Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh should have been sent as he likes ball coming on to the bat and also he is very good runner between the wickets. If he also have been out, Kaif should have come for the simple reason that he is also very good between the wickets. Had Tendulkar and co taken risks in first 15 overs, there was every chance that field would have been spread out after that. And then for other batsment it would have been easier to take singles/twos. Also Sri Lanka would have been under pressure. Ganguly being one of the better players of spin bowling should have come late in the order. His big-shot hitting skills would have been effective even when bowling was tight in late-overs.

There is no point in playing with 7 batsmen if you can't take advantage of first 15 overs. That too when it was well known that slow-nature of wicket will make scoring difficult as match progresses.

bating order

hi coach......

I will say that the opner batsman should be changed as we see that Yuvraj gets it difficult to play the spinners at his position and too good for fast bowlers we should get the Yuvraj at opening with sachin, and for the Shewag who is one of the great all rounder in the world should come at 4th or 5th position. As we know that he can smash at any position.
So i think that u will think about it for our next tour.

wright's views not right
by subramanian padmanaban on Aug 03, 2004 03:58 AM

it is indded a self consolation for john wright as he has to continue his job in indian cricket. Perhaps he has not looked back in to the past where 10 out of 13 finals were lost by ganguly. Still he is hailed as the best cap ever in indian cricket horizon. Absolutely ridiculous. Is is a record favourable to ganguly. Is the BCCI dormant or not taking cognisance to this vital fact. Do they want to live with it? what to do, indian cricket is the exclusive asset of Mr Dalmiya, so anything can happen until it is put into the grave. Atleast he should see that India donot slid to the level of hongkong in a few years.
Our captain is strong in tall talks which is his unique quality and he will simply pass on the onus on others escaping from comments. Bcas he has his godfather in dalmiya and he will continue to holdon to the captaincy even if 30 cups are lost. Yes he thoroughly desrves to be given more than Rs 60 laks p.a as proposed by BCCI for his excellent track record - 3 out of 13 trophy wins. Wright's post match assesments is right as india only found the track difficult to play where as srilanka as fools played in the same pitch and scored a small total and defended for a win.

wright's comments

Wright should be ashamed to talk like this. The team has shown incompetence to win easy matches under Ganguly and Wright. Both should lose their jobs from the ONE DAY side, after such a performance. If they performed like this(failed in 10/13 finals, with 2 no results)in the corporate world they would have been sacked much earlier.

John is fishing for excuses for the loss. The track was good for batting. You cannot say our experienced line up cannot handle this batting track.

John should be ashamed to speak to the public and should resign under moral responsibility. The team was perfect and the feilding lapses were no way the contributing factor for the loss.

Just plain old, low motivation was the reason and if if you cannot motivate this batting line up, in 4 yrs he should leave.

JUST LET GANGULY, WRIGHT COMBO work for the test team. Their performance has been ridiculous...we cannot let these guys walk for such performances.

John Wright is a great person, but you know, 10/13(with 2 NO-results) is time to leave.

Impose penalty.
by Rajwar Bahadur Virender Pratap Deo Singh Katarmal on Aug 02, 2004 09:50 PM

To
Jagmohan Dalmia.
I would like to express my views, regarding,The Indian
Team`s performance in the FINAL of the Asia cup 2004.

You should be very strict in imposing a penalty on the
Team members.Either they diliver or they are out of the team.Only then they will play.

Also there are too many SPONSOR adds. Why should the
cricketers be allowed to make an extra buck.Shouldn`t
Their be a limit to it.This I believe has gone to their heads. The Indian Team`s Motto Should be.
" Win Win Win".
Thanking you.
