Srinath bowling coach?
by harbansmehra@rediff.com on Apr 21, 2004 12:02 AM

Let us not compromise the interests and future of our team by suggesting Srinath's name for the post of bowling coach. We can find a number of better options. A bowling coach should be a person of high achievement so that players respect him, a person with great intelligence so that he knows what to improve and a person who is a great communicator and coach so that he is able to impart his skills to others.
Let Srinath prove himself by first coaching Karnataka team and achive something with that team then he will be in a better position to stake a claim to such an important job.

Srinath-- that great INDIAN cricketer
by Ram Murali on Apr 20, 2004 05:39 AM  | Hide replies

Hi, Let me start out by saying that Javagal Srinath is one of my all-time favorite fast bowlers. Our memories of a former cricketer, more often than not, extend a lot beyond numbers (for the sake of numbers, this humble, tireless pace bowler took 236 Test and 315 ODI wickets!). Sometimes it lies a lot in 'who' they really are. With regard to Srinath, we've heard many a critic say that he could be bogged down by pressure. Maybe. But in him, I've seen a sense of dogged determination, dedication and fire that is indescribable. You would look @ him and say, "This guy REALLY wants India to win." Look at Srinath's performance in the 2003 World Cup and you will know what I mean. Now, why am I talking about the writer and not the article? Its because I wanted to pour lavish praise on a man who is so generous in praise for his next generation.Only a few cricketers like Srikkanth and Srinath are this unabashed in their admiration of the current Indian team.I am sure it would be extremely inspiring for cricketers like Balaji and Pathan to know that a bowler whom they looked up to, is a fan of them. Thanks for your support to this Indian team,Sri. With all due respect to Srinath, he was no way near any of the great bowlers of the world. He was India's main medium pacer just because there was no other good bowler. Very often he was criticised for being wayword, unimaginative. Very often he was criticised because if he did not get a wicket soon, he used to drop his shoulders and be demoralised. I think even his ardent supporters would do well to remember that this guy was never known to be a figher or an intelligent cricketer. Yes sir, neither in bowling, nor batting or fielding. Just because he retired, we don't have to lavish undue praise on him. In the name of fairness to the more distinguished cricketers of the past, let us think before we praise Srinath too much.

Thank you Srinath

I really appreciate the team spirit which you have shown by mentioning that you reitred in the interest of the team. Frankly the decision to hang up your boots was one of the most graceful exits I have seen in cricket. Quiet and dignified. More like the player you have been. And unlike a lot of others who arent satisfied with what they have, you definitely continue motivating the team from the side lines.
Thank you

Srinath's decision to quit International Cricket
by Shiekesh Damle on Apr 18, 2004 09:12 AM

I think all sensible people with agree with Srinath's statement. In my opinion Srinath if appointed as bowling coach we serve team better than any other bowling coach. In my opinion in spite of win in Pakistan. Our Bowling still needs a lot of improvement. In short our team needs a bowling coach. Srinath presence with team all the time will definately help.

I've been reading through shri's articles. He is genious with simple english and High-level contents. His concerns are more aligned with team concerns than any other columnist. This particular article has elevated his stature more as in the candid way he wrote about emerging bowlers and his own retirement. I wish our team management will understand his value and appoint him as a bowling coach. Best Luck Shrinath
With Love
