Kumble & Team

I agree with Srinath's views on Kumble completely. The fact that he is not ur usual leg spinner and is still among the highest wicket takers for India shows that he is a world class act and must be given his due.

I support Dravid
by Vijay Nagaral on Apr 03, 2004 11:05 AM

At tea on day2, india were 588/4 in 148 overs (Tendulkar 165*, Yuvraj Singh 11*). Eventually, when Dravid declared, the score was 675/5 declared in 161.5 overs, with tendulkar on 194 n.o. and Yuvraj out on 59.
The drinks break is taken one hour after tea, which works out to 14 to 15 overs after tea. That means the drinks break was on the anvil at around the 162nd - 163rd over. Had India continued, they would have lost a valuable 10 minutes.
Also, Sachin scored 29 runs in the period while Yuvraj had scored 48 in the same period. Given that Sachin was the set batsman, it should have been the other way round.
Both these facts point to the fact that Dravid's declaration was spot on. Sachin had enough time, but didn't make use of it in the process of protecting his wicket instead of going for quick runs which was the need of the hour.
Cut back to the second test against Australia in 2002. Dravid could have gone on to make 200 and laxman could have carried on to make 300. They threw away their wickets in the team's cause.
Shouldn't Tendulkar consider these facts before he expresses his feelings in the media? I feel that there is no point in blaming Dravid at all.

The team's objective comes first
by Premkumar on Apr 01, 2004 06:17 PM

Sachin outburst cannot be justified. A Senior Player like him should not think about own record, but should think about TEAM first. Cricket is a team game and he is definitely thankful to his team management and his team members for the achievement he earned. He must appologise for the outburst.

ANY HOW CONGRATULATIONS TO INDIAN TEAM AND HOPE THE SAME FORM WILL BE CONTINUED!!!!

The column has not been wrtten in good spirit
by Ravi on Apr 01, 2004 12:03 PM

The writing has a different goal in the back end of the writer, the praises of sehwag's attitude is just to point out at Tendulkar. This is the time that everyone has to realsie that SACHIN has been keeping the LIFE into INDIAN CRICKET for almost a decade ot so. without his records or heroic deeds cricket in India would have been died no matter how many rahuls, souravs and srinaths play for the country. Sachin is a MASTER above all and no one need to teach him the team spirit and attitude. Just give him 10 reserve palyers, he CAN win the match single handedly, he dont nedd rahul, sourav or srinath. Its high time that everyone stop talking about TEAM GOALS...every one should realise that a TEAM builds by splendid INDIVIDULAS , if there is no motivation created by the captain to the Individual there is no TEAM performance.

SACHIN is a COMPLETE MAN...just give him the due respect
