Pathan in for javed's comme nts.
by syed ahmed on Apr 03, 2004 12:46 PM

This is with the refernce to the Javed miandad's comments that cricketer like Irfan is in every street and everygully but he proved that what he has thought of him was absolutely wrong.I think he was a key player in India's historic win in Pakistan. Now javed should think of what he says before saying any thing. He should mould his players before saying anything to any one.

India's emphatic win... and a conspicuous absence
by Subho Chakraborty on Apr 03, 2004 07:46 AM

CONGRATULATIONS to INDIA for the emphatic victory. Hope they achieve a 3-0 whitewash over Pakistan, which they are quite capable of doing.

Its sad and unfortunate that in the test when the Indian team finally broke all the shackles and made history, the man who has been the architect of this turn around of the team, in so far as this new found never say die attitude and self confidence is concerned, the man who has led india step by step, test by test, ODI by ODI, ever since he took over a team freshly devastated by a gruelling australian tour some 3-4 years ago, the Captain who had a lasting decision and positive role to play in the carreer of most of his team mates, himself had to miss out due to an injury.

You were missed Ganguly - not a lot as a batsman, because Yuvarj Singh is a very worthy replacement, but surely on the balcony when the team were celebrating the results of the past 3 years of hard work.

Hope you come back fit for the 3rd test and be there on the balcony, celebrating with "team india", when we (very hopefully) achieve our fist ever series victory against Pakistan.

ps: we won with 80 overs of play left..did Sachin really have to miss out on a 200?

Man of the match
by Jignesh Shah on Apr 02, 2004 02:19 AM  | Hide replies

I really do not understand why man of the match awards mostly goes to the batsmen? On such a flat pitch, scoring triple hundred is not as great as taking 6 or 8 wickets in the match. Also, the triple century was only there for record. Even double century by Sehwag would have ensured India making 600+ total. Also, Sehwag got several lives during his knock. I do not say that it was not great knock, but it was not definitely a match winning performance considering all the support Sehwag got, all the lives he got, the wayward bowling by Pakistanis, and the flat pitch. On the other hand, on such a flat track Pathan and Kumble ensured India won the match by taking 15 wickets together in span of 4 sessions. Really, it should have been a joint man of the match award to Pathan and Kumble and a special award to Sehwag for his record ton.

I disagree... Scoring a Triple Ton is no mean achievement... Scoring a Century itself is difficult... Agreed the Pitch was flat, and the Pakis dropped a few.. but still Sehwag had to make the most out of it and he did.. Many a time have Indians played on flat docile wickets with oppositions giving then n number of chances.. How many have capitalised on it.. and the pace at which the runs were scored made all the difference.

i agree with Mr. Jignesh view .But i think tere is no
wrong in electing Sehwag becos scoring 300
runs is not a small matter.to say his score really
helped a lot.Just think wat wwould have bn
India's condition if he was out around 50 to 100
runs and Sachin out around 100....
psychologically saying it increases the mentality
of the players to field well and bowlers 2 bowl
well...y diffferentiating between bowlers and
batsman when all play with the same goal

Yes jignesh, i fully agree with you. The bowlers won the match for us, particularly pathan & kumble. Yeah, the triple century from sahwag was not so impressive. He should be thankful to the pakistani bowlers & feilders for contributing in best possible way to make a triple century. Anyhow, it's a great moment for all the Indians, finally we could beat pakistan in thier own country...well done India...

Regards
Muqeem

Sehwag's knock
by Raman on Apr 01, 2004 11:52 PM

Sehwag was brilliant and is now the only Indian to score a triple century in test cricket. However, I would still rate Laxman's 281 against Australia in 2001 as the best exhibition of batsmanship by an Indian in recent years. Laxman scored those runs when India was in deep trouble.

Ganguly As a Cricketer
by Ashish Varan on Apr 01, 2004 11:51 PM

This shows that Ganguly or for that matter any one has nothing to do with win or loss. Its not because of Ganguly we have won any match. They way Ganguly has played last 10-12 ODI, anyone else at his place would have been throw out.
Ganguly must perform and should not take advantage of his position.
Sachin as a captain failed because no one else performed. Gaguly succeeded because along with Sachin all other performed well. If Ganguly is not improving in next few matches what good is he doing to Indian team ?
