best option
by srinath on Oct 01, 2003 12:03 AM

This leaves us with a best option of opening with Dravid & Laxman & playing Yuvraj at 3 , tendlya at 4 , ganguly at 5 & sehwag at 6.

anyways if dravid bats at 3 he comes in at 4/1 so its better he comes at 0/0 & steady the ship from there.
Laxman at 6 is a waste as it has been proved in the past. so I guess Dravid & Laxman opening the innings will solve a lot of problems for us.

Srinath

Indian Opening Batsmen
by Srinivasan on Sep 30, 2003 09:21 PM

I am thankful to Mr.Boycott for his forthright comments on the Indian opening batsmen. I hope it will open up the eyes of the Indian selectors and make them select regular opening batsmen for the New Zealand and Australian Test series.

We should do away with makeshift openers like Sehwag. Sehwag does not merit selection in the Test team. He is not suitable for opening the innings and he does not have a place in the middle order, since it is already booked. If Ganguly insists on Sehwag's selection as opening batsman, probably the selectors should look for someone else to lead the team.

Similarly, Bangar is also not fit to open in Test matches. He can only stay at the wicket. He cannot score. Our opening batsmen should have the ability to stay at the wicket for a fairly long time and also score runs at a decent pace.

Australian tour!
by Muralidhar Rao on Sep 30, 2003 08:26 PM  | Hide replies

Mr.Boycott is being polite. Australia will whip India 4-0. The tour is going to be a repeat of the year 1999 when Tendulkar led India got thrashed 3-0. It is going to be the same story all over again, like club level batting, mediocre bowling, horrendous umpires, merciless sledging, hostile media treatment and the likes. Only Sachin Tendulkar could manage to get some runs. Even Dravid could turn out to be a failure like he was last time around. As for bowling Zaheer may pick a few wickets if he remains healthy. The others will be shamed like outcastes. As for Laxman another one inning wonder could be on the cards. Even in one dayers Australia will humiliate India. The present lot are too weak mentally(except for Sachin) and will wilt without a fight. It would be better of for India to employ a full time pshycologist when they tour Australia. This tour could end Ganguly's career into retirement.

Wow! Murlidhar 'Nostradamus' Rao... You've already painted the walls red and put the last nail on the Indian Cricket coffin! You've really taken pessism to new heights... or new depths, should we say! Wonder who actually needs a psychiatrist here!!!
