opening batsmen

i am still not able to understand the logic behind the arguements, points & counters for 2 opening slots, don't we hv an established opener in shiv sundar das. he is quite correct in terms of temperament. he knows that the main job of the opener is to 'de-shine' the new ball & spend as much time in the middle as possible in the early part of a team's innings. that he does quite well. only he scores too slowly, which shd be the coach's job to look after. i think we do not hv a better qualified opener than das in the domestic circuit. if taken proper care of, he shd serve india for a long time. & doesn't he sometimes remind us of the original lil master.

Opening woes

Rahul Dravid and Sachin are the only two players fit to be in the opening slots who has the ability to negotiate movement and bounce in the current team. This might sound a crazy idea, but then the rest can fill the middle order in whichever order they feel, but it still leaves middle order weak..
But then this is as good as admitting India has only two quality batsmen and the rest are paper tigers...

Requesting Gavaskar to help end opening woe is a wise move !
by Dr. Cajetan Coelho on Sep 27, 2003 12:44 PM

The BCCI has to be complimented for finally requesting Gavaskar to identify players for the opening slots. Infact to some of us it has been rather shocking to see that services of Sunil were not fully utilised to build a sound opening front for the Indian team all these years from the time the Great Master retired from the game. The void created by his retirement only he can help to fill. Many administrators of the game have never played the game at the highest level but have a great hunger and zeal to serve the game through their abilities of administration. No one should stop them. To perfect the techniques of the selected cricketers for international duty, former specialists could be requested to help left and right handed batsmen, left arm and right arm spin and pace bowlers, wicket keepers and even fielding specialists for various key positions. BCCI can do a lot for promoting the game at every level in the country and also assist in sustaining the interest of former players in serving the national team through their wise experience and input.BCCI President Shri Jagmohan Dalmiya is moving in the right direction but all work is not yet over. Much remains to be done ! Good luck !

Gavaskar's magic!
by Muralidhar Rao on Sep 27, 2003 04:52 AM

How can Gavaskar help? Is he going to come out and bat again? As if Gavaskar can transfer his skills to Aklash Chopra & co. By golly are the people of BCCI dumb? Now I am absolutely sure that they are.
