Congrats Dada, It was ridiculous to read some of the messages sent here. Sourav is the one responsible for making a talented India to a performing India. People forget how he helps the poors. People who cant make money are jealous of people who make enough. All the best to you and Team India for future. Hope we see you with the Cup in 2007 and 2011. Your Worshipper Suvajit.
My earlier message has been totally misunderstood. I am all for Ganguly and Tendulkar's financial success. But nobody deserves these kind of hideous deals in order to live decently in this world when there are millions in India who do not have the basic needs. Its monstrous to pay this hideous amount to just two people. Atleast they could be divided among more deserving players who could also share in the business endorsement. This kind of dumping money on one or two people is preposterous. Have these players no shame in accepting this kind of money when their fellow players like Ramesh & co have to eke out their livelihood? It gives them the wrong message. After all how many test matches or even one day matches have these two players won for India singlehandedly?
Good going Saurav.....you are doing much much more than any other captain that the country has ever had....your contribution to the development of the game has been unparallel and you rightly deserve to get the best..
Cricketers like Tendulkar & Ganguly are earning so much that their subsequent generations do not have to worry about finances. Recently I read that Pakistani cricketers are going to contribute to a fund to help ex-cricketers. I think the Indian cricketers, who are so fortunate compared to those in yesteryears, should set aside a portion of their earnings in a trust. A corpus of about Rs 10 crores in a period of 5 years should earn enough interest income to offer a comfortable annual wage of Rs 1 lakh to about 70 to 80 ex-Test cricketers, many of whom are in "chilled penury"! Are our cricketers generous enough to do this? It is all right for them to sell souvenirs or assist in raising money from public but will they contribute , in the words of Mother Theresa, "till it hurts"? Dilip Mahanty
I feel many of them are jealous abt the fact Ganguly is earning 60 crores thru Nimbus. I think no one will refuse huge amount of money. 1) Money removes the financial insecurities for the present and future of their life. This would help them concentrate on cricket without being concern abt. the financial aspect. Nimbus will generate the money by signing ad-deals with Companies for Ganguly, who will shell out money for their ad-campaigns. All the hassle with the companies will be managed by Nimbus relieving Ganguly from any tedious complications of the contract. 2) Past cricketers' financial condition was no different from our Hockey,Football etc.. players of today. It didn't received any government aiding or sponsorship in the past like anyother sport. Cricketers of past used to get meagre amount of money as match fees. During 80's cricket took over other sports in terms of popularity due to '83 World Cup victory '85 World series '86 England tour and other notable victories. When corporate world started shelling out money on sports in India, cricket seemed to be the obvious choice due to its popularity. Thanx!!
Cricket is played by less than 10 countires in the entire world.
We do not even win at that.We have not won a world cup for the last 20 years.
We do not win at any other sports. Yet we are proud of ourselves. We do not look beyond sports.
We keep on syaing that Sachin did ourselves proud. Amongst 10 countires that play cricket and that too when we have not won a world cup in the last 20 years.
Does a cricketer deserve this kind of money? When are we going to change our national pastime and come out and see things in perspective.
If the money that we spend on cricketers or the misplaced enthusiasm that we have for cricket, if we had even spent a fraction of it on other sports, maybe we could have won some medals at the Olympics which is a more clear picture since most countries in the world participate there. Is it bad enough that we as a population of more than a billion struggle to win even one bronze medal at the Olympics , but keep on saying that Sachin had won accolades for the country at a sport that is played by less than 10 countries. i pity myself for being part of a country that has so much misplaced entusiasm for cricket!
