Selection committee ensured lot of surprises as usual in the selection of rest of India team for Irani Trophy.
In the Ist place, Challenger trophy can never be a base to select team for the longer version.
Mohammed Kaif had been included in the last test side and now he is not selected in the rest of India side. Does this mean he'll be axed from the test side without even getting a chance?
Through sheer hard work, Kaif has carved a spl. niche for himself in the one day side. His batting style seems fit for the Test and he deserves a chance. Sehwag is basically a hitter and is quite reluctant to open, yet he has been constantly entrusted to do it. And on what basis Bangar is selected ahead of Das.
Jaffer is there in the Mumbai side and it should have been Das to open for rest of India.
I also get shocked to find the restricted role for Kaif. Harsha Bhogle once wrote in his article that Kaif should be given a bigger role in the play. He bowls regularly for UP and have done extremely well in Under-19, but it is strange that despite showing all the willingness and enthusiasm, he has never been given the ball. If even Laxman can be tried to bowl, why not Kaif?
surprised to see kaif not in the list of rest of indian team. are selectors sleeping. why balaji, bhandari, karthik? should have picked naidu instead of the kid parthiv patel.
When the captain says, the slots are up to grab, the lists shows he meant nothing or he had no power. While Naidu has performed well in the Challenger series, Patel has been picked up. What Sanjay Bangar is included, while S.Sriram has performed excellent in the series. Crappy selection panel. Again politics is playing? Very bad for indian cricket.

"While Naidu has performed !!!", I really dont understand what this means....Or..Did u mean Chandrababu Naidu...Please check your stats...I do feel sorry for Sriram...Hes a solid bloke...I am sure hell be rewarded with a break agains the touring side...

Naidu has time on his side...it may be back to nets now..But having seen him play here recently(England)..I am sure hell make it to the indian team very soon... I think the ROI team has been selected on mertit...
basically the majority pick themselves and nothingto quibble about. But Yuvraj singh and rohan gavaskar are both surprise inclusions. Neither have as far as i know made too many runs in the longer versions of the game. They have done well in the challengers but is performance in the challenger one days any criteria to decide the longer game selection.
Poor Sriram and Badani. Despite huge knocks in the 5 day game, despite suceedding in this season's ranji trophy matches, despite doing as well as yuveraj or rohan gavaskar in the challengers they again find themselves left with no scope to display potential in the vital Irani cup match.
Its unfortunate not to see the name of Shiv Sunder Das in the rest of India squad. Injustice to the players from Orissa is not a new thing done by selectors, but this is serely a case of overlooking someone's performance with some evil ideas. Das scored the highest run by an Indian at England during the last Indian tour there , but was overlooked for the next test. He has scored in the India-A tour to England recently , but I think performances does not matter when the selectors sit to select the team. A person, who was considered as the second Sunil Gavaskar, finds himself waiting to be viewed by the selectors despite scoring runs. Why this favours to sanjay bangar? what he has done so far to justify his selection in the team? Why Shewag has been forced to open despite of his reluctancy? Why Das is not getting an opportunity to show his form in domestic tournaments? He was dropped by Dravid in the Chalenger series & now this. As a cricket fan I strongly feel that some one sensible should look into the matter & do justice to the cricketers being ignored not because of there form, but because of some under the table considerations by the selectors.
